Automotive Controller needed for busy family-owned dealership group in the Portland, OR market. The Comptroller hired will be responsible to oversee a consolidated automotive accounting office for two new-car dealerships. The successful candidate is a Controller that can manage a large accounting team and ensure that their team is motivated and held accountable for their respective duties. MUST have experience as an automotive Controller to be considered for this role.

This is a great long-term opportunity with a dealer group that has a history of stable, long-term Controllers that are also long-term accounting partners to the Dealer Principal. The Automotive Comptroller will report directly to the Dealer Principal and will work closely with the dealerships' General Manager on a day-to-day business.

The Automotive Controller will be responsible to manage the financial activities of the dealership and ensure that financial goals are met. This person will be responsible to close out the monthly statements, maintain accurate financial records, analyze financial data, prepare financial reports, and provide financial guidance to management. The successful candidate will be well-versed in all areas of automotive accounting as to properly manage, train, and oversee their accounting team. The dealership has a good accounting team in place but needs a true leader who doesn't get lost in the details and can ensure that each team member is doing their job in an efficient and timely manner.

Requirements

  • Prepare complete financial statements and submit to the manufacture and management in accordance with established timeframes
  • Manage the day to day accounting operations of the dealerships to ensure that all transactions are recorded in compliance with dealership accounting processes and policies
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to management
  • Maintain regular communication with the Dealer Principal on the standings of the dealership: expense analysis, cost saving measures, and any issues that may require their attention
  • Train and develop accounting team
  • Close the books accurately each month
  • Review and approve financial transactions
  • Maintain effective communication with management and other departments
  • Provide financial guidance to management and assist in decision-making
  • Work to improve revenue or reduce expense in order to meet or exceed budget and grow the business
  • Oversee dealership accounting staff to ensure that accounting goals and initiatives are attained
  • Develop and maintain an effective cash management system
  • Manage and safeguard the dealerships' assets and ensure that internal controls are in place
  • Keep the Dealer Principal informed on the trends and cash needs of the business

  • Benefits

  • Compensation package will be in the $125,000 - $175,000 range based on experience and track record.
