CRICO is looking to expand its data analytics capabilities by transforming data into insights through the adoption of cloud computing and modern data warehousing solutions.

As we continue our journey building out this next generation analytic platform, a BI Engineer will help build and maintain BI and analytic solutions that are needed to support our claims, underwriting finance, and clinical business groups. They will work closely with senior BI and data engineers as well as data, analytics and business architects through all phases of the software delivery life cycle, to help build and enhance our business intelligence systems using relevant industry best-practices.

This role reports directly to the Manager of Software Engineering.


Key Duties & Accountabilities

  • Translating high-level business requirements and reverse engineering Business Objects and Tableau reports/dashboards into PowerBI solutions
  • Owning the design, development, testing and support of enterprise business intelligence solutions based on business requirement specifications
  • Researching technical solutions and making recommendations aligned with industry best-practices
  • Troubleshooting data issues by writing SQL queries and conducting detailed analyses
  • Routinely conducting performance analyses and tuning of reporting systems
  • Participating in software development and support processes
  • Maintaining, supporting, and enhancing existing reports and dashboard
  • Generating routine and ad-hoc reports based on business requirements
  • Keeping customers informed about business intelligence tool problems and their resolutions as needed
  • Provide production support as needed and be available as an on-call support engineer, off-hours and weekends at times
  • Performs work with a moderate amount of supervision and guidance

Requirements

MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUTE OR RELOCATE TO BOSTON

Knowledge: Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree (degree is in IT, computer science, software engineering, or related field is preferred)
  • 4+ years of progressive experience working with reporting tools (design, development of tabular reports, charts, graphs, dashboards)
  • Must have hands-on knowledge of modern BI platforms/tools such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Must have hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop/Service, Power BI Report Builder (for building paginated reports) and Tabular Editor
  • Must have hands-on experience working with DAX queries building dynamic measures, and building Power BI data models
  • Should have a good knowledge in Row Level Security and Object Level Security in Power BI and experience in configuring them, and the life cycle of PBIX/PBIT/RDL files
  • Should have hands-on experience managing Power BI Workspaces, Datasets and Dashboards
  • Should have experience with Business Objects (4.2 and higher), Desktop Intelligence, Universe Designer, Web Intelligence, Dashboards
  • A working knowledge of building self-service BI experiences
  • Must have hands-on experience writing and debugging advanced SQL queries in SQL Server, Snowflake or similar platforms
  • Basic understanding of a modern programming language like C# is a plus
  • Sound knowledge of software development fundamentals and principles
  • Experience with cloud-based development and deployment a plus
  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
  • Good knowledge using MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task between projects and prioritize work based on urgency and criticality
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy with excellent research and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible, and demonstrates passion for learning new skills and growth in their professions
