MSS is seeking passionate and committed individuals with a variety of skills and backgrounds to join our board of directors. This survey will allow you to nominate yourself or someone you know for a position on our board.
As we add additional members, we are being intentional about increasing the diversity of our board. We are looking for members who will bring a variety of life experiences and perspectives that will enrich our organization. We recognize that we are missing the voices of members of underrepresented communities and identities who could help guide our organization to provide services in more inclusive and culturally competent ways.
Special consideration will be given to candidates who identify as members of historically marginalized communities while also considering experience, skills, and expertise in areas relevant to the disability services field.
A core requirement for board membership is a passion for ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the supports they need to live the life they choose.
Areas of expertise and backgrounds we are seeking include:
- Lived Experience with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability (IDD) or experience with a family member or friend with IDD
- Law Practice
- Employment Services in the Disability Field
- Fine Arts/Gallery Management
- Fundraising/Development
- Human Resources/Workforce Development
Board member responsibilities include:
- Defining and committing to the mission and purpose of MSS
- Establishing policies for MSS
- Planning for the future of MSS
- Collaboratively developing objectives for MSS
- Directly supporting the agency financially
- Guiding the agency to be a welcoming environment for all
- Hiring and evaluating the President/CEO
- Serving a maximum of two consecutive, four-year terms
- Acting with care and maintaining a duty of loyalty
- Regularly attending and engaging in board meetings
