Job Description

The New York Times is looking for a talented booker for a new audio, digital and print interview franchise. You have a proven track record of securing high-profile, influential guests and a network of contacts in the worlds of politics, world affairs and entertainment, as well as relationships with multiple publicists, publishers and studios. You bring an understanding of booking timelines, and be both future-orientedalways looking and planning ahead to keep the team on top of events and releasesand able to flex quick-turn booking muscles and book outside of promotional cycles. You are organized, strategic, competitive and persistentyou know that booking can be a long process and you dont give up easily. You have great ideas for guests and are excited about being part of a small and collaborative team of producers, editors and hosts who care deeply about having fascinating conversations with influential people. You are comfortable networking and developing new relationships as landscapes shift, and are motivated to book a diverse mix of household names and guests whose influence may not have reached the mainstream conversation. And most of all, you understand the values of The New York Times and are motivated by our mission, and by the thrill of a great get.

The position will be based in New York, Los Angeles or Washington D.C.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the team, including two talented hosts, and New York Times leadership to develop the ambitions of a new interview franchise
  • Along with producers and editors, research and pitch high-profile guests
  • Consistently book a diverse slate of high-profile guests in both short- and long-term windows, based on your own pitches and pitches from other members of the team
  • Negotiate all aspects of a booking and manage communication with the guests team, including connecting producers to obtain any necessary media for an interview
  • Create and maintain an editorial calendar for future events, releases, launches, etc
  • Maintain and develop relationships that will lead to future bookings
  • Understand how best to communicate the value of being featured in The New York Times to influential people and their representatives
  • Knowledge of, and enthusiasm for news, trends, politics and pop culture
  • Consistently meet deadlines and be able to juggle several tasks
  • Have strong editorial and news judgment

Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in booking for TV, radio or podcasts
  • Demonstrated success in booking high-profile names, including celebrities and politicians
  • Interest in and familiarity with the influential figures shaping our culture
  • Experience working with hosts
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work under tight deadline pressures while juggling long-term bookings
  • Experience working in a long-form interview format
  • Experience working on new shows
  • An independent work ethic combined with a love for and patience with the collaborative process
  • Experience in a fast-paced news environment
  • Editorial judgment reflective of Times mission and principles
The annual base pay salary for this role is between $75,000.00 and $100,000.00.
