Job Title: Bookmobile Clerk

Classification: Clerk

Starting Rate: $12.14 per hour Pay Grade: 9

Location / Department: Xenia / Bookmobile Department

Reports to: Bookmobile Manager

Employment Status: Part Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt | Bargaining Unit

Hours: Part time, 20 hours per week


Job Objective

To promote the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library. To carry out objectives and goals of the strategic plan to better serve the community. To perform a wide variety of clerical tasks on a bookmobile.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

  • Checks out and Checks in materials using computerized system; registers borrowers; handles circulation questions from patrons in person.
  • Assists patrons in finding books and materials.
  • Prepares new library materials for circulation.
  • Opens and closes the Bookmobile.
  • Maintains a ready supply of new library card materials.
  • Assists in the removal of materials from the collection.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the juvenile collection.
  • Visits schools and daycare centers to promote library services or programs.
  • Participates in the training of new employees.
  • Prepares displays and bulletin boards on the bookmobile.
  • Participates in countywide childrens services, attends meetings of the Childrens Council when possible and participates in its work.
  • Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain knowledge as reflected in training curriculum.
  • Keeps abreast of information by regularly reading email, minutes and staff website as well as attending staff meetings

  • Performs tasks of lower level classifications as necessary, including shelving of materials.
  • The supervisor may require other related duties. These duties are nonessential functions of this position.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Maintains good relations with the public and other staff, individually and in general; shows tact and courtesy.
  • Some knowledge of library clerical principles, methods, techniques and procedures; some knowledge of basic reference skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and read printed and on-screen information.
  • Proven computers skills and ability to input information into an automated system.
  • Must be able to lift boxes of books weighing approximately 50 lbs., from floor to table and in and out of bookmobile.
  • Ability to solve problems and handle routine problems under minimal supervision or with the guidance from supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school; or a combination of other educational programs and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be able to drive an RV-type vehicle safely (does not require CDL), operate the generator, and possess a valid Ohio drivers license and meet requirements for driver insurability, as verified through the Librarys Insurance Company. Must attend driving training during first six months of employment.

Environmental Conditions

  • Majority of work is performed in a confined area, but with need for considerable mobility: light lifting, bending, stooping, stretching and sitting at a variety of desks and service points.
  • Employee may be scheduled to work evening and weekend hours, including Sundays; schedules may be altered depending on the needs of the library

  • The library pays an amount equal to 14% of each employees salary into the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System, the employee pays 10% to OPERS
