Employee Benefits Business Development Specialist Pension, Life and Medical



Mercer is seeking candidates for an exciting business development role involving our benefits and reward proposition. The successful candidate will operate within the business development team of Marsh, Mercers sister company. That candidate will focus on bringing Mercer benefits and reward products and services to new corporate clients.



Specific experience with sales/business development of pension, protection and/or medical insurance products to corporate clients is highly desirable, along with the required QFA qualification. The role will offer the opportunity to improve the lives of employees of Irish corporate clients by providing them with pension, protection and medical coverage.



What can you expect:

Mercer wishes to draw on the ability of the successful candidate, and the disciplined business development processes of its sister company Marsh, to bring its employee benefits proposition to new areas of the market in Ireland. You will sit within the Marsh business development team, learning and adopting its sales discipline and process, and winning new employee benefits business for Mercer.

You will collaborate with the Marsh business development team on their prospects, expanding the Marsh proposition to include Mercers employee benefits services. The main areas of focus will be on group pension, life, disability and medical cover. There will be excellent opportunity for progression and career development within the group.

You will be based in our Dublin office, with work from home permitted up to 2 days per week. You will need to work towards attainment of the APA (General Insurance) qualification if not already held. This role within the team is intended for a candidate with employee benefits and sales experience and with the QFA qualification or equivalent.


The starting role will be a combination of:

Opportunity shadowing and contribution
Learning both technical and sales specific
Prospect research and planning
Development of sales collateral
Contact management

We will rely on you to:

Work with the Marsh business development team to bring the Mercer benefits proposition to new business prospects clients.
Develop sales collateral around our proposition, drawing from and enhancing existing materials.
Liaise with Mercer consultants to pass on business as it is won.
Work with senior stakeholders within Marsh and Mercer to integrate their respective propositions


What you will need to have:

Sales/business development experience and discipline
Experience in an employee benefits related role
Full QFA, or equivalent, enabling compliant employee benefits sales
Ability to work in a fast-paced and supportive team focused environment
Knowledge of corporate client employee benefits design
Demonstrated ability to develop and use sales collateral
Ability to collaborate with others on a sales opportunity
Record of achieving results
Ethics aligned to our Greater Good philosophy


What makes you stand out:

APA (Personal General Insurance) qualification
Knowledge of some of the key current issues affecting the market in pensions, life, disability and medical cover
Hard working, proactive and flexible in your approach to business with excellent problem solving, organisational and analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Experience in a consultancy/insurance provider firm
Strong technical knowledge of at least some of the pension, life, disability or health markets
