Oakwood School is seeking a full-time, year-round, Business Director.


SUMMARY

The Business Director is an integral part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for developing and overseeing the financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting. The Business Director oversees, directs, and supports all aspects of the school's business office.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and oversee the financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee school business functions, including: tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, contracting, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administration activities
  • Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the schools goals and mission and maintain account records related to the schools budget
  • Provide financial reports to school leadership
  • Participate in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process
  • Collaborate with and assist the head of school in meeting fiduciary responsibilities
  • Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational environment
  • Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing constructive and timely feedback, model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students in the conduct of the schools business
  • Communicate clearly and enthusiastically, to all staff and stakeholders


QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERENCES

  • Bachelors or advanced degree, accounting, finance, or business administration preferred
  • Prior responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
  • Prior experience with grants management a plus
  • Prior experience with financial accounting transactions
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • A successful track record in setting priorities and a multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats
  • Keen analysis, organization, and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Able to work extended hours, some weekends as needed
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a multicultural environment
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, professionalism, a commitment to lead by example, and dedication to the mission of Oakwood School


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-30 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment.
  • Ability to work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations on campus
  • Normal office environment and moderate noise levels
  • Occasional to frequent interruptions


COMPENSATION

This position has an expected salary range of $108,281-$134,063.
