***IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN POTENTIAL OF PERM POSITION AFTER CONTRACT.**** DEPARTMENT: Cardiopulmonary Services JOB TITLE: Respiratory Therapist, Registered JOB SUMMARY: Respiratory Therapists provide care for a variety of different types of patients who have trouble breathing. The age of these patients range from premature infants with undeveloped lungs to elderly patients who have diseased lungs. Respiratory Therapists also provide emergency care to patients suffering from acute conditions like heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Respiratory Therapists must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals assigned to this position must maintain the appropriate certification, licensure or registration as mandated by the specific governing agency. SUPERVISION: A: Reports to: Director of Cardiopulmonary Services B: Supervises: N/A JOB QUALIFICATIONS: A: Education (or equivalent years of experience): High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a college or university program of Respiratory Therapy (AMA approved). Credentialed with the NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Active Colorado license in good standing. BLS required. ACLS, PALS, NRP required within six months of hire. B: Experience/Skills: Able to perform all basic and selected advanced respiratory care therapeutic procedures as directed and monitored by appropriate personnel. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and/or policy and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, "customers" including the public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must have competent training and knowledge to provide age appropriate care upon hire with formalized age specific training, random competency assessment and testing in compliance with current policy provided. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. PPE is frequently required. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supports and participates in department or unit quality improvement activities including customer satisfaction. 2. Supports and promotes the mission of the hospital. 3. Endorses and supports team work principles. 4. Maintains adequate records of all procedures and monitor inventory of supplies. 5. Understands and is knowledgeable regarding all procedures and studies performed in the department. 6. Prepares for and participates in CMS surveys. 7. Able to competently use the department and hospital's computerized information system. 8. Demonstrates a commitment to treat all in a professional, courteous manner and exemplifies a team spirit. Endorses and supports best practices in team work principles. 9. Able to perform advanced procedures requiring appropriate level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, technical specifics of equipment operation, objective and physiology of therapy modalities and the desired and adverse reactions to medication. 10. Advanced procedures include: ventilator care, suctioning, artificial airway care, resuscitation, bedside spirometry, ABG specimen collection and interpretation, and chest x-ray interpretation. 11. Administers all basic bronchial hygiene and therapeutic procedures to include: IPPB, Incentive Spirometry, EZ-PAP, HHN, CPT, bland aerosol administration, humidification therapy, O2 therapy, CPR, basic/advanced airway maintenance, smoking cessation education, and asthma education. 12. Performs EKG's, EEG's, PFT's, Mobile Cardiac Telemetry, Holter and Event Monitor hook ups. 13. Utilizes and maintains an organized medical record and utilizing clinical forms and EMR for documentation. 14. Maintains all equipment and instruments for administering therapies and modalities. This includes such things as minor troubleshooting and problem resolution, knowledge of physiological effects on patients, understanding safe operation of equipment and proper cleaning and disinfecting. 15. Observes all infection control procedures including hand washing, sterile technique, medication handling, equipment disinfection, supply cleaning and handling of infectious specimens. 16. Efficiently uses supplies, equipment and personnel. Exercises good time management to assure therapies are administered in a timely manner. Contributes to productivity of department by suggesting improved methods for delivery of care. 17. Monitors supplies on hand on a daily basis and notifies the department manager/supervisor/director when additional supplies need to be ordered. 18. Responsible for performance of therapeutic procedures in a safe and medically appropriate manner, reports adverse reactions of same and reports equipment malfunctions. 19. Reviews records and treatments for appropriateness and notifies supervisor if questionable. 20. Performs all charting and documentation in a timely and accurate manner per policy and procedures. 21. Prepare and batch charges accurately and effectively for computer entry. 22. Responsible for regular call shifts. Required to respond to call and be on-site within 60 minutes. 23. Completes regular education and HealthStream assignments. 24. Other duties as assigned.
