This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Child Care Center Supervisor who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for maintaining a high-quality learning environment for the early care and education of children from ages three (3) to five (5) years. As the supervisor you are responsible for the supervision of all childcare center employees and no more than eighty (80) children.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelors degree or Five (5) years of experience and able to obtain Child Care Directors License/Certification in the State of Texas, upon hiring in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Education or a related field.
  • Preferred: 80 credit hours of Child Development/Early Childhood Education or Bachelor's degree in Early Education or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Five (5) years experience in an early childhood program or school.
  • Preferred: Experience with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited programs, Rising Star - Four Star Center, and or Texas School Ready classrooms.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

  • Required: Ability to obtain a director's license with the Department of Family and Protective Services.
  • Preferred: Food Safe Manager, CPR and First Aid.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete 38 clock hours of training each year
  • In accordance with Texas state law and licensing rules of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, persons employed in this position will be subject to a Child Care Criminal History Check (TDPRS Form 2971), FBI Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis test.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage staff and center operations.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with program families.
  • Support and sustain community relationships with other Panhandle Early Learning Centers.
  • Assist the Childcare Coordinator to design and implement the yearly budget.
  • Oversee Amarillo College student observation/learning experiences.
  • Compose various reports/evaluations as requested by deadlines given. Ex Enrollment Audits, Staff Training Reports, Staff yearly performance reviews and the Annual Reports for the NAEYC.
  • Participate in professional learning and development as required under state or local contractual agreements and/or Amarillo College.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Maintain supervision of Early Head Start Classroom while working collaboratively with Region 16 Panhandle.
  • Organize effective parent conferences and child assessments for developmental progress.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to utilize adequate computer skills needed to perform the work required.
  • Ability to handle stress and remain calm.
  • Ability to work independently and as team member.
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally.
  • Ability to adhere to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements and responsibilities.
  • Effective organizational and task prioritization skills.
  • Commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules((link removed), Pay grade 10 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. The employee must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and or maneuver children, office, cleaning and teaching supplies up to 50lbs alone as needed.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays and varying events as necessary.) Timely and regular attendance for all employees is required to ensure adequate staffing and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization.

Work Environment: This position works in a child care environment, requiring regular sanitation. Daily exposure to household cleaning supplies, frequently distracting noise levels and frequent interruptions. This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
