Position Purpose-The Head Crew Coach provides coaching services to the Mens and Womens Middlebury College Crew Club and attends and supervises all practices and competitions. This includes travel to, and coaching at, competitions and assisting club members with their technique to the end of improving their rowing ability during both fall and spring competitive seasons.

This is a benefits eligible role. This is considered a term appointment, with a ten month appointment.

Core Responsibilities-

Mentor the Clubs membership as both competitive athletes and campus leaders, and the Clubs officers in organizational management and leadership.

Design and supervise all practice activities and training programs to ensure safety and effectiveness

Attend all club practices and assist in the coordination of competitions serving as the club's primary on-site risk manager.

Work with the Office of Sports Medicine to ensure all medical clearance requirements are adhered to without exception

Manage equipment selection, procurement, maintenance and storage.

Supervise assistant coaches as needed and possible, based on available funding.

Assist student club leaders with scheduling competitions and practices in accordance with College and league policies.

Coordinate, in partnership with the Office of College Advancement, fundraising efforts to support club operations.

Serve as a member of the Student Engagement team, working on projects and student life tasks to support the management and oversight of club sports as a whole as necessary and appropriate.

Oversee the club president and team captains and assist them in fulfilling their administrative obligations in conjunction with the Club Sports Liaison.


Requirements

Position Prerequisites:

  • Bachelors Degree or relevant experience required.
  • At least 3 years coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • US Rowing Level 2 coaching certification, or the ability to obtain it in the near future.
  • Emergency medicine training, or the ability to obtain it in the near future.
  • Department of Transportation Medical Certification (DOT). or ability to obtain in the near future.
  • Commitment to student development through sportsmanship, teamworks, and camaraderie
  • Strong Leadership and Motivational skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other coaches, administratos, studnets, and alumni

Fundraising experience desirable

Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Flexible schedule and available to work nights and weekends as needed. Rowing is a physically demanding activity, requiring lifting of heavy objects, work in extreme weather conditions, and in and around water.
