Coding Specialist

As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of medical procedures, diagnoses, and services for proper billing and reimbursement. Responsibilities of the Coding Specialist

• Accurately review and interpret medical documentation, such as physician notes, lab results, and patient records, to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.


• Ensure coding compliance with established guidelines and regulations, including CMS, HIPAA, and other relevant industry standards.


• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to clarify documentation and gather necessary information to support accurate coding.


• Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry trends, and implement necessary adjustments to coding practices accordingly.


• Work closely with billing and reimbursement teams to resolve coding-related discrepancies and denials, providing necessary documentation and insights.


• Maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity in a fast-paced environment, meeting or exceeding coding quotas and deadlines.


• Participate in coding audits and quality assurance programs to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure adherence to coding accuracy standards.


• Assist in training and mentoring junior coding staff, sharing insights and best practices to foster professional growth and development.


• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and exhibit a strong commitment to ethical coding practices.

Requirements of the Coding Specialist

• Coding certificate required.


• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare facility or medical billing environment.


• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare providers, billing professionals, and insurance companies.


• Solid understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines.
