Bay Area Women's Center is seeking a full-time Crisis Hotline Advocate to primarily work the second shift. BAWC is a family-friendly, non-profit agency offering the opportunity to be part of our amazing team working to effect change and save lives within our community. We provide emergency/crisis intervention, emergency shelter, counseling, and support services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Crisis Hotline Advocate provides residential families and crisis line callers with crisis intervention and management, mentoring, and advocacy support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Candidates should have the ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in covering open shifts when necessary. A shift premium of $5 per hour is provided when covering third shifts. The ideal candidate will be non-judgmental, have experience in a residential/shelter setting, and demonstrate crisis intervention skills and excellent decision-making abilities.

This at-will position is full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week. Salary range: $13.00 - $15.50 per hour.

Client-Related Duties:

  • Provide the highest quality of care in responding to crisis phone calls.
  • Perform client intakes as needed.
  • Assist residential clients with completing documentation, including but not limited to applications for employment, education, and income, as related to their goals.
  • Provide support and mediation for communal living issues in the residential program.
  • Support other residential staff in meeting the needs of clients while they are in the shelter program.
  • Promote healthy living within the shelter and support the meal program through oversight of meals, record keeping, and resident assistance.
  • Attend in-service training to enhance knowledge and professional development.
  • Assist with shelter housekeeping duties.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of client records.
  • Track and complete data entry related to services provided.
  • Compile, maintain, and report statistical data as required and necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum Associates Degree or 60 credit hours in an educational program within the field of human services, social work, or psychology.
  • Knowledge and experience with the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention.
  • Computer skills and experience, specifically with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently or in groups, with organizational skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including, but not limited to, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to multitask in potentially high-risk situations.
  • Able to work with a diverse population in a non-judgmental, empowering manner.
  • Able to safely operate office machines and shelter appliances/equipment.
  • Able to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
  • Able to travel within the service area and the state.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment background screening and drug testing.
