Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC), a member of the University of Maryland Medical System, and a leading provider of primary care in Anne Arundel County, is looking for a Nurse Practitioner for our Critical Care Residency Program

The Critical Care Residency Program is a one-year post graduate training program consisting of a wide range of technical and procedural skills by sharing knowledge through simulation, educational courses and clinical rotations. Our goal is for you to learn to provide comprehensive health care to a specific patient population under the supervision of medical staff. Follows established applicable nursing and medical standards, procedures, and practices, and gives specific patient care directions to nursing and other support staff. Patients served include adolescent through adult-older adult.

Job Description

About the Program:

You will work as a member of the critical care team and develop greater independence over the course of a 12-month training program. Experiences will include:
  • Completing admissions
  • Note writing
  • Presenting on rounds
  • Calling consults
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing
  • Performing bedside procedures
  • Obtain a diverse understanding of critical care billing

As a BWMC Critical Care Resident you can expect:
  • Mentorship from experienced Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers
  • Attend all assigned didactic, educational, and simulation activities.
  • Complete an evidence-based research project including local presentation or publication.
  • Trained to obtain patient histories and develops patient care charges, ensuring completeness and accuracy of documentation.
  • Trained to place orders, obtain and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Trained to design, order and document appropriate treatment plans/plans of care including prescriptions of medications based on a comprehensive review of HPI and diagnostic results.
  • Direct supervision of all patient care
  • Dedicated educational time- on-site an education and independent study
  • Structured teachings on common critical care medical diagnoses
  • Ability to practice skills in a simulation environment
  • Program completion includes local presentation or publication of an evidence based research project
  • Skill building for: interacting with families, end-of-life care and palliative care involvement
  • Procedural skill will include: intubation, ultrasound guided central lines, arterial lines, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, chest tube placements , paracentesis, lumbar puncture, bedside tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube placements.
  • Elective time can be spent with palliative care, infectious disease, cardiology, nephrology, neurology and interventional pulmonology.

Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or eligibility for licensure in the state, is required. Applicant may be waiting for licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner. Must receive Maryland State License within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Master's degree with completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Must become eligible for CDS and DEA license.
  • Must be approved by the Credentialing Committee and MEC within 8 months of hire date.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, organization skills are required.
