Geomagical Labs is building 3D experiences in partnership with IKEA.

Our industry-leading, IKEA Kreativ app allows millions of customers to scan photorealistic models of their spaces, then furnish them with 3D products, through life-like mobile & web mixed-reality --- reinventing home commerce along the way.

We have an opening for a 3D Asset Pipeline Engineer to join our Cloud Graphics engineering team.

In this technology role, you will develop automated software tools & pipelines for: 3D model processing, ray-tracing, AI training data synthesis, and batch creation of our interactive digital showrooms. The tools & technologies you will build will process high-resolution 3D graphics models into millions of photorealistic renders, and real-time LODs to be used by hundreds of millions of customers all around the world, on thousands of devices.

This could be a dream job for a highly-motivated software engineer, with 3D graphics skills, strong systems programming skills, and a passion for 3D mixed reality.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with Applied Research & Engineering teams to deliver new 3D capabilities.
  • Develop Python tools & pipelines to optimize & manage millions of 3D models.
  • Automate ray tracing pipelines to produce photo-realistic imagery at high scale.
  • Create fast CGI render pipelines, producing high-volume data to train AI neural nets.
  • Enhance realism with enhanced materials & render engines.
  • Develop innovative new cloud-based graphics features & services.

Requirements

This position requires excellent systems software engineering skills, broad 3D graphics foundations, and specialized understanding of 3D modeling, texture-mapped materials, and model optimization (retopologizing, remeshing, texture compression, etc.). Specific requirements include:

  • Solid technical foundations in 3D graphics - both real-time & ray-traced.
  • Thorough understanding of PBR materials, texture management, u-v mapping, atlassing, and baking.
  • Strong proficiency in the Python programming language.
  • Systems programming experience (file I/O, networking, distributed systems) in both Linux & Windows environments.
  • Expertise using Blender for modeling, and ideally, Cycles for ray-trace rendering.
  • Basic hands-on experience with 3D modeling/editing tools.
  • Experience with 3D asset conditioning/optimizing (e.g. Simplygon) is a big plus.
  • Experience with GLTF materials and model formats is desirable.
  • Experience with 3ds Max and V-Ray is desirable.
  • Must be creative, entrepreneurial, and ambitious.
  • Work authorization required - we cannot apply for work visas for this role.
  • This is a contract position, with potential for growth.

  • Join a mission-driven company, strategically backed by an influential global brand.
  • Work in a dynamic team of computer vision, AI, computational photography, AR, graphics, and design professionals, and successful serial entrepreneurs.
  • Work from our downtown Palo Alto headquarters, or fully remote work (available to strong candidates in USA or Canada).
  • Hourly rate of $60-95 per hour, varying based on skills, experience & location, with opportunities for successful candidates to grow with the company.
  • Flexible hours.
