Job Summary



Detention officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment inside the Clarke County Jail. If you are familiar with the law and know about all of the legal procedures relevant to the execution of your assigned duties as a detention officer, then this job may be for you. To thrive in today's legal system, you must be sensitive to the changing nature of security and safety in the United States while striving to maintain a high standard of accountability and oversight. Adhering to standards and routine is important, as is working closely with other members of a security team. Job Responsibilities

• ' Conduct safety and security searches of confinement facilities, inmates, and accused persons.
  
  ' Keep accurate and timely documentation of all activity, including unusual occurrences and disturbances.
  
  ' Undertake regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with all existing regulations and standards.
  
  ' Prevent inmate escape and other security breaches within correctional facility, other agencies, and outside locations.
  
  ' Assist fellow correctional officers with tasks requiring multiple skilled personnel to correctly complete.
  
  ' De-escalate confrontations, halt fights, and contain disturbances that take place between inmates and/or accused persons.
  
  ' Keep track of changes to procedures, updated regulations, and other periodic shifts in workflow to stay up-to-date with current policy. Train in specialty procedures or in advanced security protocols, and pursue further education when the opportunity presents itself.
  
  ' Work closely with other officers in a coordinated team, to see to the well-being of the general public, people accused of crimes, people going through the criminal justice process, or those who are currently incarcerated.

  ' Successfully complete a drug screening and be willing to submit to periodic screenings once employed
