The Director of Development manages the development of existing and new standalone storage and solar plus storage projects including site control, permitting, community relations, and coordination of interconnection. They will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team involved in all stages of a project, from request for proposal response through construction and requires regular team collaboration and travel to project sites.


What you'll do:

  • Close coordination with analysts to develop and implement effective land campaign strategies.
  • Take projects through site control, feasibility scoping, due diligence, preliminary design, permitting, PILOT/local tax negotiations, interconnection, incentive securement, detailed budget development, detailed schedule development, and negotiation/execution of subcontractor and vendor agreements
  • Maintain strong networks with energy industry representatives and key stakeholders in project development.
  • Work with the BD and M&A teams to identify and assess opportunities to acquire projects, advance new pipelines and business models, etc.
  • Independently conduct negotiations for site control for option to purchase or to lease, and manage document execution, recordation of memoranda, etc.
  • Work with legal counsel on lease negotiations and to identify real estate entitlements
  • Lead greenfield land campaigns by coordinate with inhouse GIS Analyst to drive site selection and due diligence process.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage consultants and service providers including title insurance, permitting consultants, real estate/land agents, interconnection engineers, surveyors, etc.
  • Lead AHJ permitting processes, manage all required permitting activities with internal and external resources
  • Proven project management skills including cross-functional team management, due diligence, logistics, communication, budgeting and scheduling.
  • Direct resources on next steps required to drive projects through due diligence, development, and permitting and interconnection
  • Communicate on a regular basis in meeting with supervisor and team members, including in person meeting in NYC headquarters as needed to foster strong collaboration among team

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering or other relevant field
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience in engineering, construction, finance, or related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar development. Must have project management, and environmental and land use permitting experience.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, decision making/problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
  • Independent thinker able to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Team player with strong initiative.
  • Passion for the renewable energy industry, with a deep understanding of solar and storage development.
  • Candidate must have the skillset to make critical decisions autonomously while being responsible for managing a large portfolio of projects in various stages of development.
  • Comfortable with basic principles of project management and development, finance and economics.

Salary Range: $160,000- $175,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
