Position Summary:

The Director, Medical Services is tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations regarding athletic training for Athletes Unlimited across all four sports: Softball, Volleyball, Lacrosse, and Basketball- including off-season preparations. In season, the Director, Medical Services will manage the trainers to ensure our players receive individualized care to optimize performance. The Director, Medical Services provides injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for players medical issues.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a local athletic training team in each sports market
  • Provide athletic training and oversee on-site care, monitoring and management of player injuries and illnesses; implement customized preventative strategies of injury prevention for each player based on evidence based best practices
  • Supervise and support training staff to ensure smoothly functioning training room; work closely with the AU staff, physicians, and facilitators to ensure optimal player health and performance
  • Run the day-to-day operations of the training room including setting training room hours and staffing, communicating daily schedule to players and staff, and working with training staff to maintain inventory and required supplies to operate training room
  • Adhere to all Athletes Unlimited league rules and reporting, including Health and Safety Protocols
  • Attend orientation, all practices, all games and scrimmages when on-site
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe training room and work environment
  • Complete administrative and other duties as assigned
  • Lead insurance onboarding for any necessary athletes and handle post-season wrap ups of injuries/insurance

Requirements

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or similar field (required)
  • Masters degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or similar field (preferred)
  • Current certification as an Athletic Trainer by the NATABOC (required)
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (required)
  • Other related credentials and certifications preferred, such as: Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a collegiate or professional sports setting as a Head and/or Assistant Athletic Trainer, or equivalent experience (required)
  • Experience with one or multiple Athletes Unlimited sports is preferred
  • At least three (3) years of managing staff in an athletic training work environment required
  • Must be available to travel to and live/work in market during Athletes Unlimited seasons (~30 to 40-% travel)
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, as well as lift heavy objects (~50 lbs.)
  • Must be able to comply with all company-wide COVID-19 requirements, including full vaccination status
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask while working effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior organization and project management skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to balance vendor and internal priorities
  • Knowledge of and passion for sports, preferably in softball, volleyball, lacrosse, and/or basketball
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge and comfort with technology

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of sports and general health related medical issues and appropriate treatment options; proficient in managing and executing emergency medical care
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions; must be able to prioritize and effectively multitask as needed
  • Must have uncompromised ability to protect confidentiality/privacy of others and Athletes Unlimited documents and records
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and cultivate professional relationships, effectively lead and promote a positive team culture, and manage different personalities and skill sets from a player and staff perspective
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively with different audiences

Benefits

This role is full-time, remote when not in-season, compensation will start at $80,000 annually and will be commensurate with experience. Travel, accommodations, meals, and other specified travel expenses to each season will be covered as part of the responsibilities of this role.
