POSITION SUMMARY: Operate a City vehicle in support of an assigned function including either the pick-up and/or delivery of items to City departments, the transportation of participants to and from various locations and perform safety checks on assigned vehicles. Job Descriptions are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receive general supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff. ESSENTIAL AND SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below) 1. Operate a City vehicle in support of an assigned function; assist in loading and unloading vehicles; determine daily route and log gasoline fill ups. 2. Pick-up and deliver a variety of items and materials to City departments including library books, janitorial supplies, office supplies, gifts, and donations. 3. Transport participants to and from various locations including doctor appointments, shopping facilities, recreational events and meal sites. 4. Assist participants in entering and exiting the vehicle; ensure passengers are properly seated and that seat belts are secure. 5. Transport hot meals to home-bound seniors; record weekly meal counts; ensure proper temperature of foods on arrival. 6. Perform daily safety checks on assigned vehicle including brakes, lights, fluid levels and tire pressure; clean interior and exterior of vehicles. 7. Collect and account for all money received for transportation purposes; make bank deposits as required. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Operate assigned vehicle in emergency situations as required. 2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. One (1) year passenger transportation or delivery experience preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE: Operation and maintenance requirements of passenger vehicles City streets, boundaries and road ways Traffic laws, ordinances and rules PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITY: Operate a City vehicle for the performance of assigned duties Perform daily inspection of vehicles and ensure safety for passengers Collect and account for money received Learn various social services available to participants Communicate clearly and concisely Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation WORKING CONDITIONS: Environmental: Field environment; travel from site to site. Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods; heavy , moderate or light lifting; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
