Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for independently utilizing the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a group of patients based on policies, procedures, and all regulatory requirements. Also responsible for triaging patients in the Emergency Department.

Job Specific Duties:
1. Effectively triages patients considering both the physical and psychological aspects of care.
2. Utilizes the Nursing Process to appropriately assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
3. Delivers individualized quality patient care through a coordinated team approach with
physicians, staff, other departments, and the patient's family and/or significant others.
4. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient, family and/or
significant other regarding pain management.
5. Administers medications and treatments according to Facility's policies, procedures and
accepted standards of care.
6. Effectively engages patients, families and/or significant others regarding the plan of care, short and long term goals, progression toward goal achievement, including discharge planning.
7. Documents relevant data, nursing diagnosis, outcomes, patient care plan, interventions
and patient's response to interventions, patient's ability to perform activities of daily living, and discharge plan.
8. Assesses, plans and implements patient, family and/or significant other educational needs based on age/developmental needs, level of understanding, cultural considerations, barriers, motivators or limitations.
9. Effectively communicates patient needs, interacts with clinical support staff to achieve the best possible patient outcomes, evaluates patient outcomes and revises patient's plan of care accordingly.
10. Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multi-disciplinary team strategies.
11. Uses tactful, appropriate communication with patients, family members, significant
others, and staff in sensitive situations.
12. Maintains communication with the nursing team through electronic communication, SBAR reporting of clinical actions, irregularities and continuing patient, family and/or significant other needs.
13. Accurately documents patient care services by entering information in the patient record.
14. Protects patients and employees by maintaining a safe and clean work environment adhering to medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substance requirements.
15. Supervises and mentors assigned team members.
16. Timely meets regulatory requirements for licensure and/or certification renewal and
complies with HMNMH's in-service training, attendance, punctuality, uniform and dress code standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensure and Certification:
Current California RN license
Certification by appropriate governing body desirable (AACN, ANCC)
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS provider cards
Current MAB certification
Education:
Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) required
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred
Experience:
Minimum 1 year acute hospital experience preferred
