Job Responsibilities




  • Function autonomously to conduct patient histories and physicals for complex critical, chronically ill, and acute patients.

  • Order, perform, and analyze diagnostic and therapeutic tests concerning the needs of the patient, and follow up on a regular basis to ensure their needs are being adequately met.

  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities to ensure the health and comfort of all patients.

  • Implement measures to assist patients in regaining and sustaining physiologic endurance to include serving in the first assisting role.

  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals and monitoring the effectiveness of all interventions.

  • Facilitate the staff and the patient as well as the family decision-making process by providing educational tools for self-management of acute or chronic illnesses.



Job Skills & Qualifications



- Active and unrestricted Georgia state M.D. license



- Active medical staff privileges at a hospital in Georgia



- Current Certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine



- Be a graduate of the National Association of EMS Physicians EMS Medical Directors Course and Practicum



- Must be eligible for certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicare EMS Subspecialty Boards



- Possess valid and current ACLS certifications and Georgia’s Drivers License

Summary



    The City of Augusta, GA is seeking an EMS Medical Director who will provide professional medical guidance to the Augusta Fire Department. The goal of this position is to improve EMS engagement outcomes to scale up overall community service of the AFD.   The ideal candidate will have a passion and drive for improving and strengthening the community’s emergency response and citizen care capabilities.



Job Responsibilities:



- Provide medical control and oversight for EMS programs including ALS, BLS, Infection



Control, community-oriented training programs such as CERT, CPS and AED programs



- Provide medical control and oversight for the defibrillation program



- Design, evaluation, and administer a continuous quality improvement (CQI) and a



comprehensive quality assurance program (CQA)



- Develop, review, or revise written operational and medial protocol procedures for EMS pursuant to State of Georgia regulations to assure the medical service delivery of the EMS Program by AFD and provide medical administration, support and oversight of EMS curriculum development and education



- Provide medical liaison services between the Augusta Fire Department and the Augusta medical community



- Facilitate and implement the EMS Agenda for the future as developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and the GEMSIS-Shaping the Future of EMS in Georgia plan as developed by the Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services/Trauma



- Conduct at least one training activity each quarter



- Provide quarterly reports outlining the Services provided in the preceding quarter



- Investigate and resolve medically related complaints against AFD, including the authority to limit, suspend, or withdraw medical direction to any AFD staff member



Position Particulars:



- Malpractice, General Liability, and Workman’s Comp Insurance provided



- Contract term is for two years with option to extend to five years



- EMS Medical Director is expected to provide a minimum of 8 hours weekly toward the position
