Who We Are
OnYourMark Education is a high-dosage virtual tutoring service providing individualized early literacy virtual foundational skills instruction to K-2nd graders grounded in the science of reading. We partner with schools as a supplement to the literacy instruction already in place to ensure students get the foundational reading skills they need to excel!
Why We Exist
OnYourMark exists to ensure that the students we serve learn to read by 3rd grade. We also believe that spreading an understanding of the science of how children learn to read can be transformative for tutors, teachers, children, and families. Getting foundational literacy skills right in K-2 will support children to read on grade level and diminish the need for schools to remediate at their current levels.

Requirements
Position Overview
OnYourMark Early Literacy Substitute Tutors provide virtual high-dosage tutoring to Kindergarten through 2nd grade students grounded in the science of reading. Substitute Tutors learn how to teach an explicit phonics curriculum to support the development of foundational reading skills. This 1:2 individualized approach will increase the speed at which students develop as readers by third grade, the year that research shows students must master these skills in order to engage in increasingly complex texts as they move on in school and life.
Your Commitments
- Engage in paid virtual pre-service training prior to the start of the session. For new substitutes, this will be ~20 hours and for continuing or returning substitutes this will be ~4 hours.
- Fill in for tutors across school sites as needed during each semester session. The fall session runs for 10 weeks September through December and spring session runs for 10 weeks February through May.
- Substitute tutors will be contacted with as much lead time as possible to be offered the opportunity to cover sessions and will have access to sign up for shifts in advance
- Substitute tutors must pick up at least one shift bi-weekly at minimal
- Successful substitute tutors will be first in line should a tutor position open up mid-session or between fall and spring sessions
- Learn from experts in the field to develop and continuously improve tutoring skills and understanding of how children learn to read based in the science of reading
- Instill the love of reading and learning in the young people with whom you work
Additional requirements
- Tutors must reside within the United States and US territories.
- Tutors must complete the appropriate fingerprinting requirements outlined by each school partner assignment, if applicable
- Tutors must have a computer with a chrome browser and working microphone/video
Benefits
Compensation
Early Literacy Substitute Tutors will be paid for training, plus $9 for every 20 minute tutoring session covered. Typically, substitutes will be asked to cover all four sessions in a row for an absent tutor. Successful substitute tutors will be eligible to renew for the upcoming school year.
