Job Description


Education Campaign Manager - Kerala
Rabies still kills one child every 30 minutes in India. This role will be responsible for creating and delivering awareness and education campaigns to reduce rabies deaths in Kerala State/Mumbai city/Bangalore city. You will be working for Mission Rabies, a project of the international animal welfare charity, Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS). Mission Rabies has vaccinated 2 million dogs and educated over 7 million children on rabies prevention since 2013. Mission Rabies started in Goa, which became the first state in India to achieve rabies controlled status in 2021. No child has died from rabies in Goa since 2016. We want to build on that success and save lives nationwide.
Based in Thiruvananthapuram or Mumbai city or Bangalore city, you will be working under the direction of the Indian Education Director based in Goa. You will develop campaigns across multiple channels to raise awareness of the disease, increase vaccination coverage and share information that can save lives.
Importantly, you will also ensure that our key partners in Kerala/Mumbai city and Bangalore city feel engaged. Your role will build long term commitment and inspire them to do more to support champion rabies elimination in the state and across India.
This is a new role and offers a great opportunity for the right candidate. There will be opportunity to grow and develop within this role, working with the wider team to help develop your skills and build experience. We need someone who is ambitious, driven and wants the opportunity to grow their own programme of work.
This is a full-time role. More than Rabies Control, at Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) we champion animal welfare around the world. We send vets where they are needed most, provide expert veterinary training in hard-to-reach places, and ship urgent aid supplies worldwide, every day of the year.
We deploy teams of vets and vet nurses, send equipment and supplies to help struggling organisations on the front line of animal welfare, and train vets at our international training centres in India, Thailand, Malawi and the Galpagos Islands. We also work on strategic one health projects such as rabies elimination campaigns with Governments and NGOs all over the world.
Last year, WVS treated over 62,000 animals, trained over 1,000 vets, deployed teams of vets all over the world, and sent over 450 parcels of veterinary supplies to 175 charities in 70 countries.
Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the engagement with Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Animal Husbandry and Departments of Municipal Administration and Panchayats to develop and deliver effective mass awareness about rabies and its control.
  • Reports to Indian Education Director and support the development of an effective education strategy in Kerala.
  • Develop campaign plan and project schedules for the delivery of communication and education work, analyse field data collected through WVS app and track project performance.
  • Adapt and deliver training to health workers / volunteers / teachers in the delivery of lessons about rabies (train-the-trainer) across Kerala State
  • Coordinate with Mission Rabies Project Managers at Kerala, Mumbai and Bangalore in support of the project.
  • Provide support with community engagement for the vaccination activities of Department of Animal Husbandry
  • Produces a monthly report about education & awareness activities and plans on the project.
  • Produce and manage education campaign budget.
  • Implement WVS Safeguarding Policy within Kerala State or Mumbai or Bangalore.
  • Extensive travel will be required - primarily throughout Kerala or Mumbai or Bangalore and then possibly to nearby States as well.
  • Attend and represent MR & WVS at Government functions/ events and other Events as required.
  • Represent WVS in the media as required and when approved by the India Education Director
  • Other duties as required y MR and as assigned by the India Education Director.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • 5 years experience - ideally someone with senior experience in public health communication and education programmes in Kerala or Bangalore or Mumbai.
  • Bachelors degree in relevant field
  • A passion for animal welfare and/or public health
  • A strong team player
  • Self-motivated with demonstration of organizational and self-management ability
  • Confident and outgoing, dynamic, energetic, engaging and fun
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Fluent in English, Hindi and Malayalam/English, Hindi and Marathi/ English, Hindi and Kannada
  • A full drivers licence
  • Clean police record check / Certificate of no prior convictions
  • No previous employment termination for disciplinary behaviour or bad job performance
  • The ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends occasionally when the charity requires.
  • The right to work in Kerala or Mumbai or Bangalore.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of animal welfare, public health or One Health issues
  • Experience of delivering public health communication campaigns in Kerala or Mumbai or Bangalore
  • Knowledge of the education system in Kerala/Mumbai/Bangalore (5-15) and ability to adapt educational resources specific to local setting.
  • Previous experience of line management.
  • Experience in PR campaigns, generating press coverage and communicating with journalists.
  • A strong understanding of digital strategies along with demonstrable involvement applying this understanding.


Salary and allowances: Salary based on experience and qualification Rs.65000 or above.
