Electricians on the NAS Patuxent River team come from all areas of the Tri County of Southern Maryland including California, Ridge, Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Leonardtown, Waldorf, Laplata, Lusby, Solomons. Primary responsibility of the Electrician is providing electrical services to include repair and/or replacement needs; installing, maintaining and upgrading electrical systems and equipment including Solar Photovoltaic Systems, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices and Relays. Work involves a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment. The ideal EMI Electrician holds a Current Journeyman License and has commercial/industrial experience.



Salary

$36.46 - $ 38.51/hr. plus $23.07 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k!

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, and fixtures
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components
    • identify hazards, defects, and need for adjustment/repair
      • ensure compliance with codes.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
    • use testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures
    • Base on job specifications and local codes.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment
  • Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas
    • pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Assist other skilled trades in the maintenance or repair of equipment for the distribution, or utilization of electric energy
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal codes/regulations pertaining to electrical trade
  • Work standard computations relating to load requirements
    • use a variety of hand tools, measuring and testing instruments
  • Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements
    • including alterations/repairs
  • Perform physically demanding tasks
    • dig trenches to lay conduit and move/lift heavy objects
  • Estimate cost for materials and services
  • Adaptable and flexible in work situations
  • Establish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in timely manner
  • PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies
    • MUST follow strict safety procedures
    • Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience maintenance electrician
    • include 2 years at a journeyman level
    • MUST be in an industrial or commercial facilities maintenance environment
  • Licensed Journeyman
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • Must be available for after hour calls
  • Valid drivers license
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • U.S. citizenship to Obtain and maintain access to military installations



Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
    • frequently work on ladders and scaffolds.
  • May spend long hours outside and in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
    • may stand for long periods
  • Electricians risk injury from electrical shock, falls, and cuts
