About the Unit/Department/Team Lakewood Health Systems Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center that isopen 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The department is staffed by registered nurses (RN), advanced practice clinicians (ACP), and physicians who work together to assess, diagnose and treat emergent medical conditions. Additionally Lakewood is equipped with its own ambulance service to respond to emergencies in the region, transport patients to the hospital, and a helipad to transport patients elsewhere in emergency situations. We provide medical/trauma care, crisis intervention, and client education in a caring and confidential environment. Mission for Position The Emergency Services Director oversees the operational, financial, programmatic and personnel activities within the Emergency Department to ensure each patient receives high quality, compassionate care. Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Priority: Align emergency department objectives with system-wide goals Identify opportunities for service line growth, new programs, and enhanced patient care offerings Develop long-term plans for service enhancement, technology adoption, and infrastructure improvements. Plans and/or develops programs to meet identified needs of the staff and facility and the Federal/State/guidelines. Long-Term Planning:Develop long-term plans for service enhancement, technology adoption, and infrastructure improvements. Budget Oversight:Develop and manage the departmental budget, including revenue generation, cost containment, and financial forecasting. Review and development and maintenance of unit services, policies and procedures. Community Engagement: Collaborate with community organizations, EMS providers, and local agencies to improve emergency care delivery. People Priority: Cultivate collaboration, growth and development across team Recruit, hire, and retain qualified staff members. Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Conduct regular performance evaluations, address performance issues, and recognize outstanding contributions. Mediate conflicts among team members and promote a positive work environment. Ensure adequate staffing across all shifts Effectively lead change when system or department-level changes impact team Promotes effective working relationships with administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers and agencies in order to coordinate patient care services within and outside of the facility. Provide clarity of expectations within department, and mentorship in meeting those expectations Operations Priority: management, coordination and regulatory compliance of Emergency Services Subject to 24 hour call in the event of a medical emergency or staffing deficiency Maintains close communication with nursing staff concerning specific cases of infection and problems with routine infection surveillance, prevention and management. Maintains the emergency units in an orderly fashion. Coordinates inventory supplies and equipment to ensure adequate supplies to meet unit demands. Responsible for current policy and procedures as they relate to emergency services. Is knowledgeable on emergency regulations, practices and interpretive guidelines of the unit and assists in preparing for surveys. Aware of any patient care or employee occurrences - initiates proper procedure and ensures that the Director of Quality, Risk, Patient Safety and Regulatory receives the report. Nursing Diagnosis is derived from patient status on admission and the care that is given is consistently evaluated, priorities reassessed, new goals set, and plan for nursing care revised on a continuous basis. Champions the overall delivery of patient care and promote decisions that are patient centered. Promotes and holds department accountable for safe work environment and upholding patient safety standards. Monitor key performance indicators related to patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Position Type Full-time, salaried Qualifications Qualifications Graduate Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing and in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BA/BS preferred. Current Minnesota license to practice nursing. Three years clinical experience in trauma/emergency care. ACLS / TNCC or a Trauma-Certified RN (TCRN) / STABLE Certifications. Good physical and mental health, emotionally stable and mature. Excellent computer skills, experience in an electronic environment of nursing practice Experience in supervision and leadership experience. Prefer a minimum of 5 years nursing leadership experience.
