Job Description

II. POSITION SUMMARY


The position is a key member of a Global Engineering team and is responsible for driving the work process for generation of all Process Control and Instrumentation design, engineering and procurement on the project. The role of a Sr. Process Control Engineer is to manage one or more projects with minimal guidance and supervision.


III, NATURE AND SCOPE


He shall possess a good understanding of design, execution and implementation of Control and Instrumentation systems across Air Products plants and products.
The role is expected to participate in developing the process controls execution strategy, controlling the process controls budgets for materials and man hours, tracking and reporting project progress and ensuring that the project schedule is maintained. He shall lead & supervise team during execution.


IV. DIMENSIONS:


The plants will range between small mid-size and large, cryogenic Air Separation and Hydrogen/Carbon Monoxide, Gassification, Methanol, Amonia or Refinery Units. These plants may be owned by Air Products as part of their Global Operating Group or may be turnkey sales to third party customers
The primary purpose is the delivery of a safe, fit for operation control system design and implementation to an agreed schedule and budget
Responsible for review of corresponding vendor documents
A Control System (DCS / SIS / PLC / MCMS/) engineer acts as the technical interface between AP project execution and commissioning teams.
Providing support to other AP engineering centers as desires.



V. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


A Sr. Process Control engineer is expected to Lead for process control activity to assigned project & is responsible for meeting quality of deliverables, schedule & man hours. He may be also required to support as support engineer for very large project, as may be required.
He shall be technically sound & shall be able to check & approve documents generated by team & shall be able to guide & mentor team mates.
He shall possess managerial skills to meet project schedule & control man hour consumption.
He shall have good communication skill to interact with intra-discipline coordination as well as inter-regional office communication.
Provide training for trainees and younger engineers on a wide range of process control topics.
He shall organise work to meet deadlines dictated by project schedules.
He is expected to participate in the estimation of proposal man-hours and capital costs, preparing project execution and control strategies.
Liaise with other engineering disciplines to agree operational and interface details on all project packages and equipment.
Liaise with vendors, resolve technical issues without exposing Air Products to claim for additional costs.
Control the man-hours and equipment costs incurred on the project anticipating manpower requirements and highlight scope and design variations in accordance with Air Products procedures.
Travel globally for periods of time to conducts inspections, handover meeting of Process Control systems and Instrument design.
Support pre-commissioning, commissioning and plant start-up team.
Closely coordinate with DCS Development team for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) / Distributed Controls Systems (DCS) programs, FAT and SAT
Support the DCS team on configuration of PC based Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI)
Accountable for issue of specification of Control system (PLC, DCS, SIS), instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level etc), Control Valve, PSV and Silencer etc.
Accountable for checking and approving process of the Instrument design deliverable. Example location layout, hook-up, wiring diagram, cable schedule etc.
Having good working knowledge on SPI (In-tools) platform. Extend support to Jr. Engineer to work on different domain.
Instrumentation scope definition, estimation & forecasting, planning, review / check / approval, document control and review, scope control and other activities necessary for project execution.
Safety and rigorous adherence to relevant specifications and standards for all instrumentation designs produced and equipment specified by AP and / or APs Engineering Partners.
Accountable for the safety and engineering scope adherence in accordance with project specifications & standards.
Implementation of quality procedures and contribute to continuous implementation of improvement activities.
Effectively communicate by email, power point or face to face APs execution strategies, schedule issues and project requirements with AP team and client.
Support and contribute to APs standard.


V. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelors degree and 10 to 15 years of work experience required (Instrumentation engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation engineering and controls programming knowledge required).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact with various disciplines across Customer Engineering and Air Products centres.
Must be a self-starter who takes initiative in learning and implementing new methods, concepts and/or technologies.
Must have strong ability to multi-task in a busy work environment.
Strong technical capabilities including and understanding of the process technologies employed in Air Products Engineering.
Strong Engineering and project execution mindset.
Experience and knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Standards with a demonstrated commitment to Safety
