Shelter House, the state-certified domestic violence center for Okaloosa and Walton Counties is seeking an Executive Director.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directions and is responsible for:

  • Financial and administrative management and oversight
  • Overall strategic and executive management of the organization
  • Ensuring that services provided to survivors of domestic violence are mission-focused, inclusive and without bias
  • Providing sufficient staff development to achieve overall organizational mission
  • Securing sufficient funding for operational and special project needs through grants/contracts, fundraising events, donor development and community partnerships
  • Budget preparation, approval and revisions in cooperation with state/federal and local entities
  • Maintenance of organizational records and historical documents, including but not limited to confidential participant and personnel records
  • Capital project management of multiple facilities
  • Human resource management of agency staff
  • Community engagement to promote the organization
  • Public relations with media and other community members



Requirements

The minimum requirements for the position are:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and two years experience working in the domestic violence field;

Or

  • Four years experience in an administrative/management capacity and two years experience working in the domestic violence field.

Additional training is required within 90 days of hire.

The successful candidate will:

  • display characteristics of an effective leader
  • have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • exercise sound judgment while interacting with survivors, staff and the community and be able to implement conflict resolution and de-escalation methods
  • be proficient with modern technological systems, database management and social media platforms
  • be knowledgeable of organizational budgets, non-profit finance and operations to include contract management and grant-writing skills
  • embrace the demanding work associated with working in a domestic violence center.
