Tech Insights Practice Overview



Technology Insights Group (TIG)at Bain & Company is a rapidly growing global team of world-class technologists. We work with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies to act as technical advisors in investment processes. We conduct product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging our extensive expertise in software and understanding of commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses. The Global Technology Insights Group team consists of technology savvy consultants and former CTOs and CPOs of leading global technology and software companies with decades of both advising and operating experience. The team has completed 400+ product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide.



Over the past three years, we supported our clients on some of the most visible technology investments in the US and Europe, including several of the Top 2022 and Top 2023 software deals. We conduct engagements spanning enterprise applications, vertical applications (HCIT, FinTech, EdTech), infrastructure software, cloud software, and tech-enabled services (IT services, e-Commerce, AdTech). WHAT YOULL DO

Joining Tech Insights is an exciting opportunity to build a new and critical capability at Bain. You will leverage your technology and consulting experience by actively contributing to projects, assessing key aspects of leading software companies for PE investors.



You will help our clients strategically approach how technology will shape their businesses and solve some of the most challenging issues they face. Working alongside an outstanding group of individuals, you will develop and enhance your own technology expertise, commercial acumen, and analytical capabilities. Additionally, you will gain direct exposure to C Level Executives, and Private Equity professionals. Whether your long-term goal is to grow with us, join a PE/VC firm, or to start the next great technology company, you will build a fantastic foundation by joining our multi-talented and highly motivated team.




Responsibilities in detail:


Provide technical guidance to PE clients in the context of their investment thesis and monetization strategy when considering a new acquisition

Drive practice wide agendas and help to build and scale a new business as a core part of the Tech Insights leadership team; act as thought partner to Tech DD leadership on our growth and strategy.

Work closely with Partners and Expert Partners to lead and drive technology due diligence, integrated diligence, and value creation assignments on behalf of PE investors targeting software and software enabled businesses

Contribute as a technical generalist or expert technical specialist in product management, data/analytics, hosting/cloud migration, software architecture, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure.

Formulate and drive new and differentiating IP for the practice

Actively contribute across the entire client engagement, from formulating the project scope to building and presenting the final report.

Coach junior team members as the primary Technologist on an engagement.

Conduct hypothesis-led problem solving, communicate complex ideas, and approach problems strategically.

Effectively develop and communicate recommendations and insights to the project teams, PE investors, and technology leaders.

Enhance Bains Tech DDs brand through external and internal reputation building and marketing efforts.




ABOUT YOU

The Expert Associate Partner, Tech Insights Group role requires a background in technical leadership and a working knowledge of software architectures, software technologies, and development methodologies. Experience in technical consulting is a very strong plus.



This role will be based in Berlin, Germany, thus, requiring fluency in the German language in both verbal and written communication.





Demonstrated track record and industry reputation

Demonstrate a successful track record as evidenced by a rapid progression in increasingly complex roles in the software or tech industry.

Reputation as a technical expert and innovator possessing both breadth and depth of technical knowledge

~15+ years in a software or technology related position or industry; Technical diligence or equivalent experience is required.

Ability to generate new, novel IP that will differentiate Bain over the long-term

MBA and Top tier consulting experience preferred but not required.




Technical Consulting

Experience in providing technical consulting especially to PE clients is considered a plus.

Experience in leading technical projects as a consultant to commercial clients is considered desirable
