Minimum Qualifications

These are labor class positions. There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. A Facility Operations Assistant 1 must be physically able to perform the duties assigned and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.

Possession of a valid New York State drivers license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.

Duties Description

The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill three Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions. These are temporary/hourly positions in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the New York City area. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with repair and maintenance tasks in one or more of the construction trades.
  • Work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow verbal instructions.
  • Perform manual labor with the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • May climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adhere to OSHA safety standards.
  • Team travel within the assigned region to multiple OMH facilities.

Additional Comments

These positions are part of the New York City Revite team that travels between facilities in the New York City area performing special project renovations, ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects. The regional revitalization team concept was first adopted for the New York City region in 1984-85, and soon expanded to five regions that cover the entire state. The Environmental Revitalization Teams are made up of temporary Trades Generalists, Maintenance Assistant, and Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions that perform ongoing maintenance and small renovation projects to augment facility support staff services. The teams operate on an ongoing basis, making visits at each OMH facility in the region twice each year.
