Malta's technology is a critical stepping stone for the transition from fossil power to green renewable energy resources. Malta is located in Cambridge, MA but operates globally with a range of international project partners, investors, and clients.

Directly responsible for all accounting and financial functions including, but not limited to, the monthly closing process, direct all accounts payable, payroll, monthly reporting for the CEO/CFO, and all treasury administration. The Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues and create procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate. The Controller will be a business partner to the senior management team and will also be responsible for strategic thinking, management and Board reporting, and the thoughtful analysis and effective communication of key information.


  • Oversee all aspects of daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, client billing, reconciliations, and accounting period close with the willingness and ability to delve into and manage the details.
  • Oversee and lead the accounting team in all financial reporting activities.
  • Support and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies and procedures.
  • Partner with other departments to provide financial analysis and support.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Support as needed with ad-hoc projects and reporting.
  • Coordinate tax prep with our external tax accountants and annual business audits.
  • Support filing state annual returns and local taxes for all business locations.
  • Manage international entities in Spain, Germany, and Italy.
  • Assist with the implementation of ERP and FP&A systems.

Requirements

  • CPA license required.
  • Experience working for an audit firm.
  • Knowledge of GAAP financial reporting requirements.
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • DOE grant reporting experience
  • Energy storage industry experience
  • Experience with various financial software, including Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, (link removed), QuickBooks, Adaptive Insights, PowerBI, TriNet, and (link removed).
  • Knowledge of IFRS financial reporting requirements.
  • Ability to quickly learn various tax and compliance regulations in new geographies as the company expands.

  • Experience with corporate finance, project finance, and tax equity financing a plus.
