Position Summary:

The Business and Data Analyst provides value-add insights to multiple global entities and functional areas in support of executive decision making. This role will work cross-functionally with senior leaders to provide financial analysis and decision support for company initiatives across all areas of the business. Responsibilities include data collection, reporting, analysis, creative storyboarding, and presentations to support senior leadership messages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the collection, analysis, and translation of financial and operational data into usable, actionable metrics, key performance indicators, analytics, reports, dashboards, and advice
  • Key strategic partner in managing the continued development of budgeting, financial forecasting, operating plan, and strategic modeling processes
  • Develop financial models provided analyses and insights to support strategic initiatives
  • Lead and take direction from leadership in the preparation of the presentations to regional businesses, executive leadership, and Board of Directors
  • Participate in the evaluation and measurement of impacts delivered from operational excellence initiatives
  • Assist business to address queries by extracting data and analyzing data, performing ad-hoc analyses and complete data requests through monitoring of data
  • Analyze financial performance and recommend organizational, operational, technological improvements in policies, procedures, organization and infrastructure for improved efficiency and growth
  • Support Global and Regional Management Teams by preparing and presenting in-depth analysis and variance reporting in weekly/monthly meetings
  • Provide market research, data mining, and business intelligence
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Presentation and Storyboarding
    • Expertise with charting and other data visualization techniques
    • Demonstrated ability to take complex information and/or large data sets and translate them for use in graphic or interactive visualizations using data tools such as Power BI, Visio and PowerPoint etc.
    • Able to gather data to prepare detail-oriented reports and spreadsheets, both standard and custom in nature
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Financial acumen
    • Able to implement and maintain financial data
    • Deep understanding and preparation of financial and accounting concepts, providing variance analyses and supportive insights
    • Develop improved operational finance review analytics of key trends, and feedback mechanisms
  • Business Acumen
    • Understands Duke CEs business model and the capabilities and differentiators; able to effectively communicate that to others
    • Able to make recommendations and forecasts for future business opportunities
  • Project Management
    • Able to set priorities, organize and manage multiple tasks independently
    • Anticipates needs; takes initiative-taking approach to work
    • Meets deadlines; manages time effectively
    • Strong attention to details; focused on quality
  • Client Service
    • Ability to establish professional and personal credibility with colleagues, clients, faculty, and venders; owns relationships
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Technical
    • Expert knowledge of Excel, Power BI, Power Apps and PowerPoint
    • Able to learn and work in various databases and systems
    • Advanced skills with data visualization methods
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, and Word

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors (or equivalent) degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in financial modelling and margin analysis
  • Knowledge of integrated ERP software, specifically, D365 and Power BI a plus
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in the global finance function of a multi-location, multi-national corporation.
  • Preference given to candidates with professional and financial services industry experience.
