BASIC FUNCTIONS: Performs fleet maintenance-related functions including preventive maintenance inspections, major repairs, rebuilding, parts and minor body work.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections on all buses according to the specifications outlined in standard operating procedures and on inspection forms.




  • Repairs mechanical failures identified on the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report and/or by maintenance personnel.

  • Determining proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement




  • Rebuilds major components (engines, transmissions, etc.)




  • Repairs minor body damage on all vehicles.




  • Changes out buses when a mechanical failure forces the bus operator to temporarily suspend service.




  • Assists with procuring materials and supplies and maintaining parts inventory.




  • Assists in the cleaning of the maintenance shop.




  • Assists Maintenance Manager with general maintenance tasks as needed.




  • Attends training sessions as required.




  • Maintains professional image and conduct, including a proper, well-maintained uniform while on duty.




  • Maintains company rules and procedures at all times.




  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; at 20 inches or less; and distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet. Ability to judge distances and space relationships, to see objects where and as they actually are. Ability to observe an area up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally.



Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.



Physical Activity includes, but is not limited to: lifting, pushing, pulling parts on vehicles; crouching, kneeling, stooping to work on brakes and other vehicle parts; hearing to detect engine noises; reaching below waist, waist to shoulder and above shoulder to repair vehicles; rolling tires; turning screws and bolts, using chisels, pliers, ratchets, screwdrivers, and other tools; utilizing repetitive movements to turn screws and bolts. Collating, feeling, grasping, handling, holding, sorting, fingering reports and documents.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have at least two (2) years previous experience repairing and maintaining automotive equipment (Heavy duty transit equipment preferred). Prefer previous transit maintenance experience.



OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Must hold a valid State of California Commercial Driver’s License. Must be able to pass DOT physical examination, and all required drug and alcohol tests. Must have excellent driving skills and record. Must provide tools needed to perform general fleet maintenance tasks (bus-specific tools to be provided by the company). Must maintain at least a satisfactory level on work performance evaluations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to assorted fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals; exposure to vibrations, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. They may be exposed to outside weather conditions including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.



Job Type: Full-time



Experience:




  • Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Maintenance experience in the automotive repair industry (Heavy duty transit equipment preferred)

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, interpret safety documents, blue prints, schematics, and other mechanical diagrams

  • 2 years mechanical (Automotive or Heavy Duty)

  • Basic computer skills



License:




  • HVAC 608 Certification (Preferred)

  • ASE Transit Technician (Preferred)
