About Dune Security:

Dune Security is a pioneering cybersecurity SaaS company that is revolutionizing the industry by creating the worlds first Employee Security Posture Management solution. By leveraging ML, we quantify individual risk through analyzing user behavior, context, learning patterns, and third party data. This allows us to tailor cybersecurity measures to each individual, transforming vulnerabilities into strengths. Dune Security is poised to reshape cybersecurity, enabling organizations to proactively manage risks and empowering CISOs to safeguard their companies.

Role Overview:

We are in search of an experienced, talented, and highly ambitious Data Engineer, who will be a founding member of the Dune Security team. As a direct report to the CTO, you'll play a pivotal role in building a revolutionary cybersecurity company from its foundational stage. The successful candidate will possess a blend of experience in high-growth tech environments, along with a deep expertise in distributed systems, real-time data processing, and advanced analytics. This role provides a unique opportunity to work on the design and implementation of state-of-the-art machine learning models, architect scalable data infrastructure, and lead critical projects that will directly impact the evolution of the cybersecurity landscape.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Programming Skills:

  • Python Expertise: Mastery in writing efficient, clean, and modular code. Experience with frameworks such as Django or Flask, and libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
  • Additional Languages: Familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB for database interactions and a foundational understanding of Scala, especially if interfacing with tools like Kafka.

Experience with MongoDB:

  • Advanced Operations: Expertise in schema design for performance and scalability, query optimization, index management, and sharded cluster operations.
  • Backup & Recovery: Expertise in utilizing AWS solutions, specifically for Amazon DocumentDB, encompassing data backup, restoration, and performance monitoring through Amazon CloudWatch and other relevant AWS tools.

Data Streaming & ETL:

  • Kinesis/Kafka: In-depth knowledge of partitioning, replication, and consumer group operations. Ability to integrate with tools like Spark or Flink for stream processing.
  • ETL Mastery: Hands-on experience with tools like Apache NiFi, Talend, or AWS Glue. Proficiency in building, monitoring, and optimizing ETL pipelines from various data sources.

Cloud Computing / AWS

  • EC2: Deep experience in configuring, managing, and optimizing virtual server instances, with knowledge in VPCs, security groups, and IAM roles.
  • Lambda: Expertise in writing, deploying, and monitoring serverless functions, understanding cold starts, and optimizing function performance.
  • S3 & DocumentDB: Efficient in storing data, setting up bucket policies, and managing non-relational databases in the cloud.

API Integration:

  • Security APIs & Beyond: Proven track record of integrating a multitude of external APIs, with a special focus on security, threat intelligence, and SIEM solutions.
  • Data Ingestion: Expertise in handling diverse data formats (JSON, XML, Avro), managing rate limits, implementing OAuth2 or API key-based authentication, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity during ingestion.

Data Security:

  • End-to-end Encryption: Knowledge of encryption techniques for data at rest and in transit. Understanding of key management solutions like AWS KMS or HashiCorp Vault.
  • Cybersecurity Frameworks: Awareness of cybersecurity frameworks like NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001, and their implications on data engineering practices.

Optimization & Scaling:

  • Pipeline Performance: Techniques to monitor, profile, and optimize data pipelines for enhanced throughput and reduced latency.
  • Scalability: Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for scaling applications and familiarity with data partitioning and replication strategies to handle burgeoning data volumes.

Additional Details:

  • Location: NYC. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance of our Lower Manhattan office.
  • Hours: Full time.
  • Joining Dune Security means embracing a unique opportunity to shape the future of cybersecurity. If you're passionate about innovation and ready to take on significant responsibility, we encourage you to apply.
