Talk School is a speech and language private school seeking a full-time building substitute teacher to join our team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists and special education teachers in our unique program. Position will begin immediately. A substitute teacher is an individual who, in the absence of the classroom teacher, is responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment. The substitute teacher reports to the education director or designee at the location to which they are assigned.
Extensive training is provided and a background in working with children with autism is preferred. Job Duties
Day to day job duties of the full-time building substitute teacher are determined by the education director or classroom teacher as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and/or school. Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day.
Qualifications and Required Documents
- A valid PA Teaching Certification in Elementary and Special Education required
- Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) within the year
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) within the year
- FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114) within the year
- Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray within the year
- Physical within the year
- Up to date immunization records
- 3 references
Please include any additional certificates for specialized training (i.e. CPR).
Essential Function
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule, student or school need, and include but are not limited to:
- Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.
- Assumes the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods and out-of-class settings.
- Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teacher's lesson plans.
- Provides instruction to special needs children.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Proficiency in maintaining efficient classroom management skills.
- Conducts her/himself in a polite and professional manner with other staff members and building administrators.
- Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.

Education: One of the following degree(s) required
- Undergraduate degree in special education
- Undergraduate degree in communication sciences with courses in education to become private school certified
License:
Teaching Certification and/or Special Education certification is required.
