JOB TITLE: General Farm Worker-Assistant to Grower

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 40 hours per week, full-time, permanent

START DATE: As Soon As Possible

WAGE: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour (Depending on Experience)

NO OF POSITIONS: 8

JOB DUTIES:

• Plant, fertilize, cultivate, spray, irrigate and harvest mushroom crops by:
o Ensuring substrate preparation and cultivation for all types of mushrooms growing
o Assist in monitoring all aspects of crop performance to achieve KPI’s

• Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment by:
o Checking loading equipment set up and ensure it is set up correctly/safely and in line with Company policies and procedures
o Monitoring safe operating condition of harvesting equipment and reports unsafe or inadequate equipment to the maintenance department and, if necessary, removes it from service

• Follow Health, food safety and security procedures by:
o Ensuring all Food Safety and Quality concerns are immediately addressed with the Harvesting Supervisor(s)
o Washing and sanitizing the halls and picking room floors as needed or directed
o Adhering to health, safety, and hygiene standards in accordance with Company rules and regulations
o Monitoring and assuring the proper use of aprons, hairnets, knives, tags, gloves, and personal protective equipment

• Detect disease and health problems in mushroom crops by:
o Assist Growers in disease management; prevention and control of disease through communication, monitoring and SOP’s (Standard Operation Procedures)
o Ensuring mushroom substrate is cleaned up and does not run off, leach or contaminate ground water or other water sources

• Set and monitor water lines, air flow, humidity and temperature in mushroom barns by:
o Ensuring environment controlling, including temperature control, relative humidity, light and acidity of mushroom growing process
o Distributing water onto the mushroom growing beds as needed
o Checking all growing rooms on all the farms for accurate temperatures, working control systems, other directed needs

• Maintain or assist in the maintenance of facilities and farm infrastructure including cleaning mushroom barns, and work areas:
o Checking all steam boilers and mushroom house boilers to ensure the machinery is working properly
o Ensuring the setup and removal of fly traps as needed, along with other general maintenance tasks as required for the operation of mushroom growing
o Ensuring regular disposal of junk and industrial waste in the correct way

EDUCATION: No formal education requirement

EXPERIENCE: No experience requirement. Successful candidates will be provided with training

LANGUAGE: No formal language requirement

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, that may be physically demanding with repetitive tasks, attention to detail, hand-eye coordination
• Ability to work in various work environments: wet, damp, strong odours, dust, cold/refrigerated environments
• Ability to work under pressure and stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to work constantly and lift and/or move 50lbs/23kgs credentials
