General Maintenance Carpenters on the NAS Patuxent River team come from all areas of the Tri County of Southern Maryland including California, Ridge, Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Leonardtown, Waldorf, Laplata, Lusby, Solomons. Primary responsibility of the General Maintenance Carpenter is to support of the U.S. Navy on a daily basis with design, remodel and maintenance of buildings. The ideal EMI General Maintenance Carpenter has completed a formal apprenticeship.

Salary

$32.11 - $36.46/ hr. DOE plus $23.07 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k!

Key Responsibilities

• Design, construct, remodel, retrofit and repair interior and exterior structures
  • made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick
• Design, construct, retrofit, and repair cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames
• Install, repair and maintain building roofs
• Repair and replacement of metal doors
  • including door closers, door sweeps, weather stripping, peep holes etc.
• Vinyl siding, metal siding, gutters and downspouts, shingles, flat roof repair, vct tile, ceramic tile and grout
• Concrete replacement and repair
• Drywall repair
  • Include mudding, sanding and painting of walls
• Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications and requirements
  • applicable building and safety codes and regulations met
• Research, purchase and inventory equipment parts, chemicals and supplies
• Participate in the maintenance and operation of the Structural shop
• Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Essential Skills

• Plan and lay out work from blue prints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions
• Use variety of Carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments
  • clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate and service tools and equipment
• Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work
  • mathematical skills
• Estimate cost, time and materials for carpentry projects
  • Select materials necessary for the work

• PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies
  • including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Regular, dependable attendance
• OVERTIME- Available evenings & weekends
• Valid drivers license
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
• U.S. citizenship to Obtain and maintain access to military installations

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
• Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
• Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
• Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
• Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment
