BASIC PURPOSE : The Global Indirect Tax Advisor will remotely support an international fuel commodity trading company by providing timely and accurate advice on tax opportunities and risks to leadership and relevant stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively articulate economic and compliance impact and opportunities of new indirect tax regulatory and relevant policy changes

Manage and optimize international indirect tax positions and minimize VAT leakage. Ensure a full understanding of the international supply chain and its indirect tax implications.

Work closely with direct tax team leadership team on strategic international tax/business opportunities and expansion opportunities.

Act as a trusted indirect tax advisor for the broader international business stakeholders

Provide VAT trainings and awareness within the organization on relevant VAT topics

Partner closely with our commercial stakeholders and operational teams

Enforce and defend established tax positions towards fiscal authorities upon audit or beyond via protest procedures or appeals.

Supporting the businesses with ERP implementation and systems integration initiatives

Oversee and advise on outsourced international VAT and excise tax compliance

Conduct international excise taxes and VAT risk assessments and propose remediation plans to commercial stakeholders

Manage and lead large international complex indirect tax technical and planning projects

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
HS Diploma or equivalent required

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, Prelaw, or Paralegal Certificate preferred Juris Doctor and/or LLM in Taxation a plus

Experience:
Over 5 years of relevant professional international indirect tax advisory/planning experience in-house and/or third-party consultant environment A valid drivers license.

Previous experience in a trading environment either in-house or as a third-party consultant.

Minimum 3 years experience in European fuel commodities

Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with competing priorities

Hard skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suit; operation of standard office equipment

Soft skills: Strong verbal and oral communication skills; keen attention to detail; self-motivated; the ability to work closely with coworkers to resolve and correct tax issues

Typical Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping

Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds

Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard

Requires normal range of hearing and vision
