General Job duties:Caring of patients pre op, phase I and phase II recovery.PACU nurses care for patients after surgery and must demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and carrying for patients in Phase I. Candidates for PACU jobs require critical care skills to assess incision sites, monitor body temperature, and track other indicators of stability or complications. Ideal candidates for post-anesthesia care units have natural abilities to think critically. Past experience in critical care and surgical nursing is a plus.
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCD's, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP Monitors, Phillips MonitorsRequired skills and minimum years of experience.2+ years' experience as a critical care RN (i.e. ER & ICU) in a hospital setting may be accepted substitute for PACU nurse experience (link removed)
Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart AssociationA valid professional license within the state of practiceA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential from the American Heart Association is recommended and may be required for specific registered nurses and travel nurse positionsOther specialty-related certifications are preferred and may be required for specific positions (i.e. NIHSS & TNCC)Shift or schedule requirements.Shifts vary between 8, 10 and 12 hours and can be Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends/Holidays and vary between units ASU and PACUOn Call shift 0-3 times per month (8 hour night and 24 hour weekends/holidays)
