HUMAN RESOURCES ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP



The Human Resources Intern will work virtually and directly assist the Chief Human Resources Officer and other HR Consultants of Career Image Solutions with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, onboarding/orientation, employee engagement, employee benefits, and training. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical and will only be provided as academic credit or educational opportunity for students that are currently enrolled in an HR-related program.



In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources can play in an organization, and be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with the company’s clients.

This is an exciting opportunity for a student who has an interest in human resources and desires to get their foot in the door for the “REAL WORLD” experience.

In addition to completing the following tasks, the Intern will have weekly discussions with the Chief Human Resources Officer and will facilitate monthly presentations for board members, clients, and partners of the firm.



 



WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW



Reports to: Chief Human Resources Officer

Location: Virtual- Work from Home; 100% virtual



Duration: September to December 2020



Potential hours per week: approx. 10 to 15 hours/week



Compensation: Unpaid; Academic credit only



 



WHAT YOU WILL DO




  • Assist with full-cycle recruitment to include job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting telephone interviews, making job offers and negotiating starting salaries

  • Conduct research and compile data about HR specific subjects such as employee engagement best practices, COVID-19 re-opening cases, and specific employment laws and present virtually to local businesses and HR consultants

  • Assist with developing virtual client onboarding & training presentations

  • Develop employee engagement strategic plan for a client

  • Conduct employee data analysis



WHAT YOU WILL LEARN



The Human Resources Intern will learn the practical application of:




  • Steps in the recruiting and hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting telephone and in-person interviews, making job offers, and negotiating starting salaries.

  • The significance of employee engagement and wellness programs and how it drives employee retention.

  • The importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management.

  • The interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of new employee paperwork, payroll issues related to onboarding and termination, use of a payroll management database, and report generation.

  • Employee benefits management issues related to plan renewal and open enrollment, benefits enrollment and termination, customer retention, troubleshooting employee benefits issues, and the customer service aspect of benefits oversight.



 



WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR




  • Burning desire to learn the field of HR and able to work in a flexible environment;

  • Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest to work in Human Resources, business or administrative fields;

  • Working experience in a business office related setting

  • Strong familiarity of the different functions of HR for a company and employees

  • Excellent verbal & written business communication skills;

  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment;

  • Must be deadline-driven;

  • Prior experience working in a virtual capacity;

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously;

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word & PowerPoint;

  • Basic knowledge of Google Drive & DropBox;

  • Must have functioning telephone and internet
