This startup is an innovative air propulsion company that aims to deliver cleaner, more efficient, and quieter thrust than any other company. They are seeking a skilled leader to enhance their manufacturing capabilities in order to move from R&D to production.

The Head of Mechanical Engineering will have at least 7+ years of experience and you will be responsible for mechanical design, prototyping, and preparing designs for manufacturing. As the leader, you will guide the mechanical engineering team in identifying key requirements for future propulsors and test equipment, while also developing concepts to address requirements.

Requirements

Core responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a mechanical design team, fostering their growth and development, while overseeing the progression of products from the design and prototyping phase to production.
  • Work extensively with internal design, testing, product, and manufacturing teams to successfully bring prototypes to market.
  • Develop and maintain a robust product data management (PDM) system, encompassing design release and revision structure.
  • Establish standards for design tracking, drawing templates, and PDM approval workflows
  • Actively engage in the design, construction, and testing of products, as well as the ground support equipment.

Required

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • 7+ years of directly related experience
  • Mechanical design experience (from prototype to production)
  • Delegate tasks and oversee the workload of team members
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team of mechanical engineers, designers and technicians
  • Experienced in Solidworks and solid modeling
  • Experienced Solidworks Vault PDM
  • Experience with hand calculations and/or computational analysis methods for mechanical design

Ideal candidate

  • Experience with CNC machining, composites, 3D printing, prototyping, mechanical assembly, or injection molding
  • Qualified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Experience with piloting and/or aircraft maintenance
  • Design experience on turbomachinery, electric motors, and/or aerospace grade products
  • Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO9001
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM) experience
