Torrent Technologies is seeking candidates for the following position based in either Kalispell, MT, Bethesda, MD or Overland Park, KS. This role is also open to being remote.


Head of Pricing


The Head of Pricing at Torrent is responsible for development and implementation of pricing and management methodologies including key performance indicators, constructing financial impact assessment tools, building new pricing models, monitoring risk accumulations, learning from historical experience, and providing recommendations to the CEO and the Underwriting Committee.


What can you expect?


Understanding of catastrophe and underwriting flood models and their limitations identification of weaknesses, recommendations on how to addresses and processes to quantify.

Construct monitoring tools outside of the existing catastrophe vendor models to identify and to manage underwriting exposures and potential losses.

Building tools to assess and quantify the impact of different reinsurance structures or other risk financing mechanisms on capital and earnings stability.

Constructing tools and portfolio management processes that contribute to optimizing key performance indicators.

Developing extreme what-if-scenarios and quantifying their impact on the business.

Develop procedures to automate the collection of loss data and prepare routine and ad hoc reports and lessons learned.

Review historical loss experience and apply lessons learned to underwriting controls, including driving improvements associated with data collection, forms, coverage, deductibles, and product offerings.

Explore ways to proactively identify adverse selection for all products and lines of business.

We will count on you to:


Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Torrents policies and applicable laws; responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, training, planning/assigning/directing work; appraising performance; disciplinary actions; addressing complaints; resolving problems.

Increase the credibility of Torrent as an expert flood underwriting organization through demonstration of knowledge of the performance and relative vulnerability of risks underwritten by Torrent.

Educate employees, as well as customers and business partners, using presentations, white papers, and training sessions.

Thorough understanding of catastrophe modeling products and techniques including specific inputs, outputs and processing components for all catastrophe models used by Torrent.

Identify, analyze and provide business recommendations on how to respond to upgrades in flood modeling software including both internal process improvement and technical evaluation of changes in loss estimates produced by the models.

Develop tools to enable the Company to estimate loss activity from catastrophe events including likely claims counts and estimated loss amounts.

Serve as the modeling subject matter expert through understanding and communication of modeling methodologies, sensitivities and uses. Responsibilities also include providing guidance as to the best practices associated with use of the models.

Develop and communicate, internally and externally as necessary, Torrents position on advances in flood modeling.

Build an understanding of actual loss history relative to the models and the application of that knowledge in underwriting and claims.

Manage employees, includes hiring and developing, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining, addressing complaints and resolving personnel issues.

Provide technical leadership and managerial direction to designated personnel.


What you need to have:


Bachelors degree in Business, Insurance, Mathematics, or related field or equivalent experience.

A minimum of seven years insurance industry experience, including underwriting, marketing and product management.

A minimum of four years supervisory and/or managerial experience leading a team of technical and administrative personnel.

Demonstrable experience of deploying catastrophe pricing models to drive business value.
