Provide visualization of the operative site during the operative procedure. Assists the surgeon in providing hemostasis. Assists with the closure of body planes. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon.This position is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is seeking a dynamic role with lots of exciting problem solving and critical thinking on the job to join our team. The ideal candidate in this role will provide an industry-leading standard of direct patient care to a specific patient population according to a nursing and medical plan of care within the scope of practice as well as interact with patient family and significant others at times. This role will assist the surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Responsibilities will include frequently coordinating, collaborating, and delegating directives to and from other medical staff within our facility to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Must demonstrate decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision at times and be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.Job Responsibilities Assists with patient prepping and draping. Handles tissue as directed by physician. Provides hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels as directed and supervised by the surgeon. Provides exposure through use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques. Sutures fascia, subcutaneous and completes skin closure under the direction of the surgeon. Applies surgical dressing. Displays competency for the Certified Surgical Scrub First Assist role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards. Education/Experience: Graduate of a Certified Surgical Scrub Program and Certified First Assist Program with 2-5 years of experience with 350 documented surgical cases. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Surgical Scrub, Certified First Assist, BLS required.
