This is an extraordinary opportunity for an IT specialist to expand their skills and career by receiving on-the-job, hands-on training as a Radio Frequency (RF) professional supporting a national security facility.

Global Engineering & Technology is looking for an experienced IT Network Systems Technician with knowledge of Active Directory, Cisco routers, Microsoft server platforms, and Red Hat Linux. This individual should also have a working knowledge of, or be generally familiar with, cybersecurity tools such as Nessus, Splunk, BigFix, and antivirus software.

This individual will be trained as a radio frequency (RF) field technician to provide support for critical operations at a national security complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The trainee will be expected to simultaneously study for, and obtain, an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) within the first 6 (six) months of hire as a condition for continued employment.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitor health and welfare of network systems, virtual systems, and database servers
  • Utilize management tools to monitor, administer, backup, restore, configure, and optimize various system infrastructure components
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot all systems and subsystems as required
  • Configure and upgrade system infrastructure and subscriber units as required
  • Provide technical assistance to various departments when necessary
  • Communicate with other technicians, end users, clients, and management on application and system issues
  • Assist with recommending, scheduling, and implementing system hardware and/or software upgrades or repairs
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend software and hardware products
  • Manage tasks and priorities simultaneously and quickly adapt to changes in requirements
  • Program LMR (radio) subscriber and network infrastructure equipment using vendor-specific Radio Service Software (RSS) TRAINING PROVIDED

    Requirements

    Education:

    • High School/GED or Vocational School degree
    • An Associates degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Computer Maintenance and Repair, or a related field is highly sought after
    • Industry certifications relating to IT network systems and network security are highly sought after

    Required Experience and Skills:

    • Although 4+ years of experience are desired, a combination of work experience, certifications, and academic degree may be considered on a case-by-case basis
    • Must possess skills to effectively analyze and solve complex issues related to systems configurations, hardware, software, or human interaction, and any combination of the above
    • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Ability to pass initial and post-hire random drug screenings
    • Valid drivers license
    • Must be able to train for, and pass, the FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) exam
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, etc.)
    • Must be able to maintain good attendance and safety record
    • Must live within a reasonable commute distance in order to be available for after-hours call-ins and be willing to work overtime when necessary
    • Must be able to lift and carry test equipment and system equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted


    Security Clearance:

    Although no security clearance is required at time of hire, the individual must be eligible to qualify for and maintain a high-level national security clearance. Due to security clearance requirements, the individual must be a United States citizen.
