At First Children Services we put the needs of the child and family at the center of all activities. First Children School in Plainfield, NJ, Union County is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities serving students in grades PreK through high school. We specialize in educating students with multiple disabilities including those who are medically fragile, developmentally, intellectually, or physically disabled, deaf or hard of hearing, and/or visually impaired. As an Instructional Paraprofessional you would assists the Teacher by performing routine duties in caring for children within the classroom and maintaining a safe and clean physical environment. The Instructional Paraprofessional will participates, under the direction of the Teacher, in the education and therapy program.

Responsibilities:

Assist the teacher with positioning, feeding, and toileting the children.
Provide one-on-one instruction as directed by the Teacher.
Assist with maintaining a neat and clean classroom environment.
Understand the individual needs of each child.
Assumes responsibility for the classroom for short periods of time in the absence of the Teacher.
Records, files, and maintains attendance records and staff schedules.
Attends training, supervision sessions, and staff meetings as directed by the Principal, in accordance with company policy, and pursuant to applicable regulations.
Complete and submit timesheets accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with company policy.
Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience working with children.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with children and parents/guardians.
Must display a professional attitude.
Possessing vision/hearing senses, with or without reasonable accommodation, will enable these senses to function adequately so that the position's requirements can be fully met.
Must possess the ability to be physically mobile, with or without reasonable accommodation, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Must be able to physically assist with evacuating children during emergency situations.
