Air Products, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Lead Piping Designer at our Allentown Corporate Head Office. This position works with the Regional Piping & Layout Manager and is primarily responsible for developing safe, fit-for-purpose piping layouts and related project work according to project schedule and budget.
Principal Accountabilities
Software
Prepare 2D plant layouts and plot plans using MicroStation in support of projects and proposals Model equipment and piping to develop piping model in SmartPlant 3D (S3D) for conceptual layouts, basic design, and detailed design Generate project work including piping isometrics packages and related reports. Setup S3D plant and maintain models Develop design-reuse strategies and products Checking model attributes using reports Required Skills and Abilities
Implement design of an assigned piping scope of work in accordance with project specifications, design parameters, codes, company directives and industry practices with direction from the assigned Piping Engineer Provide documents including but not limited to, estimates and functional strategy in compliance with the issued work instructions, job aids and bid requirements to support projects and proposals Acquire adequate resources and direct activities of Piping team members to implement project in accordance with project specifications, design parameters, codes, company directives and industry practices Lead class II (small) projects through all stages of design from feasibility through to handover to Construction ensuring that (1) all design work reference and align with the latest codes, standards, and specifications and (2) costs remain on or under-budget, identifying and communicating all scope changes and/or schedule issues Lead and document multi-functional model reviews for class II (small) projects Aim to drive under budget performance- Identification of variations, scope changes or unbudgeted work Develop design-reuse strategies and products Written and spoken English communication skills, particularly regarding technical terminology related to piping Microsoft Office suite BlueBeam and/or Adobe commenting tools for redlining drawings SRD & clash detection Familiarity with global engineering organizations with respect to functions and interactions between different subject areas and support groups is preferred A minimum 10 years of relevant work experience is required Experience in piping (and pipe stress preferred) Experience with drafting tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, S3D, etc.) Experience using S3D to model equipment and piping Experience with SmartPlant Review Working knowledge of valves, in-line devices and typical support details Character

Collaborate with other functional groups to gather information needed to produce a comprehensive and constructible design package, relay schedule issues and ensure smooth handover to Construction team Provide technical support to Piping team as needed Safety and Standards
Enforce all Air Products' safety requirements, including specifications and standards related to piping design Review and validate current procedures
Travel
Travel up to 25% including office and site visits Participate in shop and site inspections and field support Education and Licensing Requirements
2-year associate degree (preferred) with 10 years of relevant work experience
