Responsibilities:

• Provides evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Screens for sick call administers medications and provides first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
• Maintains open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
• Records all pertinent information into the medical record.
• Interfaces with other departments as needed.
• Promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
• Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.

• Nurses must have the ability to work hours, days, and locations as assigned along with being capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
• Provide total health care to offenders (routine, chronic, and emergent care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge in a correctional facility.
• Safe medication administration following DOC policy
• Provide employee health services in accordance with policy.
• Follows operational policies/procedures, Health Services guidelines/policies, ACA standards of care, and Board of Health professionals' scope of practice.
• Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)
