LAB/RESEARCH TECHNICIAN I - 

Job Number: 202696 

Organization: Chemistry/Biochemistry

Job Location: Oklahoma-Norman-Norman Campus

Schedule: Full-time

Work Schedule: Varies, according to teaching laboratory needs.

Salary Range: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour

Summary:



-Prepping and removing the General Chemistry experiments each week. -Overseeing equipment repair and maintenance. -Prepping all stock solutions for General Chemistry. -Maintaining inventory of consumable supplies. -Transporting laboratory equipment, solutions, chemicals and waste from one location to another. -Collecting and manifesting the waste each week from Chemistry teaching labs. -Reporting any broken items or facilities problems (ex. Lights burned out, trash not removed) to Supervisor. -Assisting all people who come to the window for help. -Receiving deliveries from the Departmental Stockrooms and vendors/delivery services. -Helping to maintain safe environment in the labs and prep room. -Testing safety equipment when needed (at least once a week - eyewashes). -General Housekeeping skills (Ex. Sweep, Mop, dish-washing, dusting, laundry) -Performing other related duties as assigned.




Job Requirements

Required Education: 




  • GED/High School Grad or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 9 months laboratory technician/assistant experience



Skills:




  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English

  • Basic math skills

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions

  • Basic computer skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Customer service

  • Be inquisitive, curious and creative

  • Have a high quality work ethic

  • Must be able to perform basic data analysis



Certifications:




  • Valid driver's license



Advertised Physical Requirements:




  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to touch and communicate verbally.

  • Ability to climb stairs or stepladders.

  • Ability to crouch or kneel.

  • Ability to reach over head.

  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pounds properly from the ground to counter height.



Departmental Preferences:




  • Prefer two years of college chemistry or two years laboratory technician/assistant experience.



Supervision: 




  • No Supervisory Duties
