POSITION SUMMARY

The Laser Operator will program the laser to the specific specs of each project. They will set up and position sheets of metal on the laser. The Laser Operator will establish proper stop location and adjust laser beam focal point. Also, they will make proper set-ups for cutting operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Programs the laser to the specific specs of each project.
  • Sets up and positions sheets of metal on the laser and unloading materials off of the laser.
  • Establishes proper stop location and adjust laser beam focal point.
  • Makes proper set-ups for cutting operations.
  • Performs prescribed maintenance as required.
  • Performs all dimensional inspections and measures all projects.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED.

Preferred Education:

  • None.

Required Experience:

  • None.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience operating a laser machine and related software.

Position Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Locate work orders and process them within the time allotment according to the work order, production schedule, and department objectives.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and precisely and have a basic understanding on how to use basic hand tools, shear, and brake press.
  • Ability to identify quality issues and recognize changes within ones production process and make the needed adjustments.
  • Able to read and work from blueprints/spec book.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions and do so with a positive attitude.
  • You recognize the importance and adherence to all safety policies in order to promote a safe working environment, for everyone at the organization.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well in a team environment.
  • Understand the need to support the organization to work effectively by adhering to the attendance and punctuality standards and does not burden co-workers and supervisors unfairly with unnecessary and unplanned absences and lateness.
  • Understand, set-up and manipulate the operating features of the Laser operation with minimal support.
  • Ability to correctly interpret a dimensional mechanical drawing.
  • Lift/ manipulate large metal sheets by yourself, and with a team when required.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn how to use programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Drive Works.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to perform intermediate PC functions including spreadsheet formulas and functions, queries, tables, merges, and special reports.
  • Will perform some troubleshooting.
  • Intermediate experience required.

Decision Making:

  • Responsibilities are guided by a set of guidelines that provide methods for problem solving.
  • Decisions are made within these guidelines initially, and a supervisor is informed afterwards.
  • Supervisor regularly reviews the activities to determine if the guidelines have been followed

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in a general shop where different tasks are completed and has access to all welfare facilities. In some cases, the temperature can be warmer or colder depending on the season, and the temperature can vary with the shop doors being opened during the winter season. There is no AC located in the shop, so the summers can often times be very warm and humid. There is also constant noise with all the machines that are used inside the shop causing limitations in hearing. Besides noise, some of the machines produce vibrations when being used. Most of the hazards come from machines but following proper procedures should minimize risk. There is also constant dust and other airborne particles being produced by the laser and plasma machines. This position may require working in confined spaces, causing limitations to movement.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires standing, walking, and the use of hands for the entire shift. It can become very loud in the shop with many machines being used at once. With constant noise, talking or hearing can be difficult. During shifts, some projects require the use of feet, legs, arms, and hands for over 60 minutes at a time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, good depth perception. This position may require the ability to climb inside, outside, and underneath the entirety of the truck. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
