Highlights:

Position Title: Lead Dance Instructor

Pay Rate: $50 per class

Location: Cutler Bay, FL 33189

Work Schedule:

This position requires teaching two regularly scheduled 50-minute dance classes that meet twice a week for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 classes. The dance classes are two different age groups: (7-10 years old) and (11-16 years old).

The classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-7:00 pm.

  • Class 1 (ages 7-10) Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00-5:50pm
  • Class 2 (ages 11-16) Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00-6:50pm

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to sharing their art practice with others and should enjoy working with children and families.

  • Dates for Fall 2023 classes are October 10- December 13th, 2023.
  • Dates for the Spring 2024 classes are January 16th- April 4th, 2024.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center (The Moss Center) provides a world-class, multi-disciplinary cultural venue and community gathering place in the southern part of Miami-Dade County. The Center plays a key role in the economic and cultural development of the area and opened on October 1, 2011. In addition to providing a diverse range of quality entertainment to people from all backgrounds and ages, the Center's mission includes an emphasis on educational and outreach activities in partnership with community groups and schools. To accomplish this goal, The Moss Center participates in various partnerships with area schools and nonprofit groups within the area.

NATURE OF WORK

We are seeking a dance instructor in either Hip Hop, Latin inspired dance and/or African inspired dance. This position requires teaching two regularly scheduled 50-minute dance classes that meet twice a week for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 classes. The dance classes are two different age groups: (7-10 years old) and (11-16 years old).

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Creating age-appropriate sequential lesson plans for each 10-12-week dance class.
  • Choreographing a recital dance for each class for the end of each season (Fall/Spring) recital on our Main Stage.
  • Delivering class content in an age-appropriate manner while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Communicating any student/parent concerns to Moss Center education staff. Asking for support/assistance from Moss Center education staff when needed.
  • Providing adequate notice when coverage is needed and communicating with substitute teacher to ensure thorough understanding of lesson plan, goals etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. Two years of Dance teaching experience in an educational, dance studio and/or community setting. Experience working with K-12 students with various learning abilities. Bi-lingual preferred but not required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Skill in public speaking.
  • Skill in utilizing computer software (Microsoft Word, email, Zoom).
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records.
  • Ability to develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific program and learning needs.

  • Ability to mediate differences in opinions of varying individuals and foster consensus on diverse issues.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, orally and in writing with various individuals and groups.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, educators, school children, parents, civic associations, and the general public as necessitated by the work.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform all work tasks and comply with any work schedules or attendance or duty requirements. Successful candidates must be available to work during after school hours/evenings on an ongoing basis. Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License. Ability to drive within Miami-Dade County will be required, must provide own transportation.
