Jericho, Long Island law firm is seeking a full-time Legal Secretary/Admin Assistant to support a team of partners of the firm. The successful candidate is trustworthy, thrives under pressure, has excellent communication and writing skills. This position requires someone who wants to, and is capable of, contributing as an important part of a team working on a variety of complex commercial, litigation, and bankruptcy legal matters including diverse tasks to support firm partners. This position will also provide administrative and legal clerical support, electronic filing of legal documents, answering telephone calls and emails, photocopying, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
Essential Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Applicant must be proficient in MS Word (typing requirement is 55+ wpm) and have excellent spelling, grammar and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and work both independently and as a team member
- Proofread work for accuracy prior to routing or returning to attorneys/employees
- Provide secretarial support to team of attorneys including answering telephone, scanning documents, creating PDF documents, copying, faxing, and other clerical duties as required
- Provide support in checking and answering emails routinely
- Entry of billable attorney time into Juris
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently, manage workloads, and keep deadlines, as workflow dictates
- Uphold a professional demeanor at all times
- Demonstrate an attitude of cooperation with legal staff, peers and administrators
- Additional office support as needed
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of legal assistant experience is required
- Law firm experience strongly preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Highly proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) with advanced MS Word skills to edit and format documents
- Electronically file legal documents with various federal and state courts
- Proficient with PowerPDF and/or Adobe programs
- Excellent verbal and communications skills
- Strong character, integrity and ethics
- Sense of urgency
- Detail oriented
