LAC Federal seeks a General Librarian to provide front-line access and information services to students, employees, and community users.

In fulfillment of the access, circulation, and information services duties, specialists maintain an in-depth knowledge of college and library-wide operating procedures, policies, and capabilities. The candidate will create a welcoming and inclusive environment and demonstrate high customer service to ensure user needs are fulfilled at the time of need to support student success. Location: Montgomery College - Silver Spring, Maryland

Schedule: Part-time (20 hours per week) from Monday through Thursday 8:30 am-12:30 pm and Saturday 9:00 am-1pm

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the library collections, ensuring all materials are properly cataloged, shelved, and easily accessible to patrons.
  • Assist patrons with finding materials, using databases and online resources, and in-person feedback and recommendations.
  • Plan and organize events and programs such as author visits, book clubs, and other community events to promote literacy and engagement with the library.
  • Work closely with other library staff to develop and implement policies and procedures and to ensure that library services are aligned with community needs.
  • Provide information literacy instruction and support to students and other library patrons, including research skills, citation management, and writing assistance.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop course-specific research guides and instructional materials.

Requirements

  • An Associate Degree from an accredited institution is preferred
  • One year of full-time work in a library or two years of customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of current technologies.
  • Ability to assess situations, exercise judgment, and interpret guidelines to mediate situations as necessary.
  • Ability to install, test, evaluate, and troubleshoot hardware/software and devices.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time with little supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population in a busy public service setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a library.
